HOLLIS - A local man is in jail after allegedly burglarizing his neighbor’s home and being caught - and held at gunpoint - by the homeowner.

Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 25 Maple Knoll Drive shortly after midnight on Monday morning, according to a prepared police statement. The homeowner had the suspect at gunpoint and shots had been fired by the time police arrived. There were no injuries as a result of the gunshots, police said.

Police identified the intruder as Peter Camplin, 38, of 22 Maple Knoll Drive.

“Apparently, what happened was a guy got tangled up with some cocaine and booze and lost it,” said Hollis Police Chief Richard Darling.

Police did not identify the homeowner, but property assessment records list Donald Narkis as the owner of 25 Maple Knoll Drive. A woman who identified herself on the phone as Mrs. Narkis declined to comment on the incident Monday afternoon.

Camplin first broke everything in his own house and jumped through a second-story window and cut himself. He then ran across the street to 25 Maple Knoll Drive ran into a plate-glass window, into the breezeway, and then ran into the back yard, Darling said.

After that, Camplin went back into the house and kicked down the door to the kitchen. That’s where he was greeted by the owner, who was holding two handguns, Darling said.

“Three shots were fired and (Camplin) ended up spread-eagled on the kitchen floor, with the neighbor holding the gun to his head, telling him not to move. We had three officers on duty at the time, and that’s how they found him when they arrived,” Darling said.

“The homeowner was on the phone with police the whole time - as you can imagine, the anxiety level was high when they heard those shots fired.”

Darling said Camplin told officers at the scene that he had been using cocaine.

“When the officers went through (Camplin’s) house it was absolutely trashed,” gun that was discharged. It’s still under investigation, but (the homeowner) has every right to protect his life and use deadly force if he believes his life is in danger.”

Camplin was arrested and charged with burglary. According to the prepared statement, Camplin sustained a minor laceration to his hand, but suffered no serious injuries. He is being held on $10,000 cash bail at the Hillsborough County jail in Manchester. No court date has been set.

What a crazy man. The whole incident could have been a Hollyweird action film.

The home owner need to learn better gun control, it uses less bullets and less time in the judical system for fruit cakes like the neighbor.

Too bad there has to be a trial.

There might not have been, if it wasn't a neighbor.

Do you think the booze held him down while the cocaine crawled up his nose, or did the cocaine restrain him while the booze poured itself into his mouth?

According to the prepared statement, Camplin sustained a minor laceration to his hand,

Now he's got grounds to sue the homeowner.

A two-fer! Guess he didn't have to worry about hauling around an extra mag.

I'd rather have one shotgun than two handguns in a situation like this.

Well, when you have a person breaking down the back door during the middle of the night, I don't check to see if it is a neighbor before I shoot. In that situation, I shoot first and ask questions later.

I don't blame you. Happen often?

Perhaps you need to reread the story. Here let me help:

After that, Camplin went back into the house and kicked down the door to the kitchen.

So what is YOUR problem?

I don't have a problem. I think the homeowner handled the situation exceptionally well--better than most. He probably could have gotten away with blasting the neighbor, but he prepared himself and had the situation under control.
