Actually, both sound very disgusting and it makes me feel sick just thinking about it...especially a 20 pound rat!

We have a hen house out by the pond and we sometimes see a rat running around out there. Not a 20 pounder though. I can't imagine.

I would think that gators would take nutria on a regular basis, but I've never heard of it specifically.

Hmm, I found a nice article about them, and it said that they could be found in Oregon and Washington (near the area I used to live), but I'd never heard of them.

In North Carolina, the animals inhabit much of the coastal plain and are moving toward South Carolina, North Carolina state wildlife biologist Perry Sumner said.

Nutria were brought to North America about a century ago from South America, initially to be raised for their fur.

If I may speak on behalf of all North Carolinians, we are pleased to share these critters with Baja Carolina.

Actually, though I am within sight of the NC/SC line, I'm two or three hundred miles west of nutria country. But I've spent enough time in Pamlico Sound area of NC to have acquired a passing familiarity with the critters. As far as I know, they have no redeeming qualities. Nor do they seem to have any natural enemies, save humans, and there seems to be no organized eradication effort.

So, enjoy your little aquatic rodents. Maybe you could rename them "Carolina Otters," and charge Yankees to see them.

Cruncy on the outside......chewy on the inside. That was on one of my favorite "Far Side" Comics......love that humor.....

Are you speaking about Hillary or nutria or possibly both?

No problem. ....it's going to take more than a few of them to turn S.C. into a blue state.

LOL! I wonder, though, if there's a way to get the little dumplings to prefer something besides marsh plants?

For instance, the South is 'blessed' with an abundance of kudzu, and maybe the nutria could learn to like eating that? It would be a toss-up as to whether the kudzu or the nutria would win ultimately, but it would be one hell of a fight.:)

If that's a nutria it looks like a few thousand people with .22's can take them out. Let's go.

Well, you know, it is kinda cute. Not near as ugly as I pictured it. More like that cute little Canadian beaver than a rat.

I was imagining a big, pointy-faced, beady-eyed, ugly long rat with that creepy tail....shudder.

Still wouldn't eat it! Yikes!

Hey, them's FUN!!

Me and my two buddies like to go down to the pond and drink beer and shoot them with machineguns. Machineguns are perfect 'cause you can walk the fire right into them while they're swimming, and you can hear when you're on target 'cause it goes "THUCK" instead of "THWACK" like when it just hits water.

Stayed up till 2AM more'n once doin' that!

(Talked to another guy who just uses with a laser and a telescopic sight... I think he's a faggot. Anyone hung right is gonna use a subgun with iron sights.)

(I'll bet everyone here thinks I'm kidding.)

Have you ever had a rational thought in your life? You seem to be a disruptor. Would you like to have nutria destroy your farm or your business? Think about it.

Nutria aren't bad tasting, as long as you don't know its a big rat.

It all tastes like chicken, right? ;-)

What's your problem - you don't want us machinegunning them?

We're trying to keep them from boring holes in the dam and draining the farm pond - You gotta problem with THAT too??

"...and residents are encouraged to eat them."

Yes, a Nutria layer has been added near the bottom of the food pyramid.
