Popups on the DrudgeReport, and how to fix them from happening. Perm!!!!

Here is a simple fix to those nasty popus. Just do a google scan on "HOSTS", without the quotes. You will find how it controls your browsing. I did this and it makes my life much easier.

I think the popups might stop if people do what I do: I quit going to Drudge. If the whole story isn't posted here, I just won't read it.

It worked! Thanks! I hope some hack does not figure out a way around this.

Yammer yammer yammer. If you like spyware and popups, have fun at Drudge. I don't. Let him find another way to make a profit...like maybe regular banner ads, sans popups and spyware.

Or you can just click on the internet settings-options-privacy-sites and list those sites you dont want to be directed to by Drudge and change the setting to "always block".

I noticed that everytime I went to drudge I got certain cookies and crap placed on my drive that directed me to advertising sites. I wrote down the sites and blocked them, now I visit Drudge ads free.

Banner ads dont pay crap. I own and operate two websites, my most visited site www.theconservativerepublican.com operates with text and banner ads, so I can vouch there isnt much profit using text or banner ads. I average 20,000 hits per day on that site. Most text ads pay about 5 cent per click, NOT 5 cent per site visitor but 5 cents per click. Most banner ads generate about 0.00043 per visitor which isnt very much profit at all.

If you are using Firefox and still getting popups, check your firefox setting and also be sure you have no spyware.

Oh, I have already installed spybot, but I still can't remove four items that just won't go away. I'll have to do some more detective work to get rid of them, lol! I also have to re-install and run MacAfee to see if that helps.

not just tabs, but searches right from the browser that you can customize in a matter of seconds.

I really like being able to search the web, the dictionary, or IMDB without having to go to the web site first.

Two other things to consider:

1. Have you tried ad-aware? It is free, too, and it catches some things that spybot does not. (And spybot catches some things that ad-aware does not, so it is good to have both).

2. Are you deleting them, only to find that they immediately return again? If so, what OS are you using?

Right on Flash.

Firefox has impressed me so much that I'm trying to wean myself from Windows by going to Linux. I'm using the Mepis distribution, and so far am doing well with it. Haven't had to run Windows for much yet. Check out Mepis by clicking here.

work 12 hours a day on it for FREE, no income whatsoever...

No one forces him to work for free it's his choice. I have no idea what he earns but I am sure it's more than you and I earn combine.

Can you explain why Buffet made top headline the other day. The headline was about Gillette investment childing Buffet "earning millions in one day". The article no longer can be found on his website. I wonder why Drudge removed it entirely from the site.

I tried adaware once upon a time, and it seemed to ATTRACT spyware like a magnet! LOL Perhaps using it in conjunction with spybot might make a difference.

No, so far nothing I have removed has returned. I just have four stubborn items that I cannot get spybot to remove.

I doubt he earns more than me doing what he is doing. I didnt say he should work for free, I said that some of those that are complaining about ads on his site should start a site similar to his and do it for free. The guy has to make a living. The only way to make a living off of his website is for him to sell ads.

In the last week or two, I'm getting bombarded with popups on Drudge, even with Firefox. I've stopped going there. Drudge was an old habit from my early Internet days, and I guess it's time to move on, anyway.
