Saddam's Half Brother Caught
February 27, 2005
BAGHDAD, Iraq Iraqi security forces captured Saddam Hussein's (search) half brother and former adviser on Sunday, government officials said, dealing a blow to an insurgency that some Iraqi officials claim the much-sought fugitive was helping organize and fund.
Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan (search) was No. 36 on the list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis released by U.S. authorities after American troops invaded Iraq in March 2003, and among a recent group of 29 most-wanted supporters of insurgents in Iraq. The U.S. had a $1 million bounty on his head.
Officials in Allawi's office, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed al-Hassan's capture but gave no details on where it took place or when. Capt. Ahmed Ismael, an intelligence officer in the Interior Ministry (search), said Sabawi was detained early Sunday.
In a statement, Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's (search) office said the arrest "shows the determination of the Iraqi government to chase and detain all criminals who carried out massacres and whose hands are stained with the blood of the Iraqi people, then bring them to justice to face the right punishment."
It was not immediately known whether U.S. troops played any role in the arrest. The U.S. military had no comment.

Well, I guess half a brother is better than no brother at all. In Saddam's world, half a brother is the result of feeding him through the plastics recycler.

Yep, maybe he fed him into the wood chipper, and had a change of heart mid-stream.

Guess he was smart enough not to let any recent photos get around. Maybe use DNA for a positive ID?
