Jamie Foxx on Georgia Lawmakers' Minds

ATLANTA - Thrilled by Jamie Foxx (news)'s Oscar win for his portrayal of Ray Charles in "Ray," the Georgia House is hoping the actor will visit the Capitol and re-enact a 1979 visit by the singer.
A resolution introduced Thursday congratulates Foxx on his best-actor Oscar and invites him to the chamber to be honored.
The Legislative Black Caucus, which sponsored the idea, is hoping Foxx would perform "Georgia on My Mind" on a piano in the House chamber.
Charles performed the song for lawmakers in 1979 when it was designated the state song. Georgia politicians maintained a close relationship with the singer afterward; he performed at the 2003 inauguration of Gov. Sonny Perdue.
In his autobiography, "Brother Ray," Charles said he was deeply honored by his visit to the House. "That touched my heart," he wrote. "I cried. I truly did."
Sponsors haven't heard whether Foxx will be able to make the visit, said the resolution's author, Rep. Quincy Murphy. He said lawmakers just wanted Foxx to know how much they liked the movie.
"It's been tremendous. It has resurrected all this good will and feeling for Ray Charles," Murphy said.
Charles died last year.
Maybe they'll give him some of the gold from the Dome.
Come on down, Jamie!
Foxx better examine very closely what happened to Cosby... the people who suddenly want to be his friends will turn on him viciously if he doesn't toe the party line.
And he'd better stop listening to Larry Elder, or he's in danger of becoming a Republitarian.
(LOL...I did a spell check...and it let "Republitarian" through)
Have yet to see the movie 'Ray' but hear nothing but good things about it. I met the real Ray Charles a number of times after he left Atlantic records and the guy was a sweetheart. Although it wasn't commonly known outside the music business Ray Charles was a heroin addict, what we in the record business used to call a stoned dope fiend. Many of the classic Ray Charles songs people love today (as well as many other famous artists) were recorded when Ray was high on heroin-go figure. There was nothing to compare with his music at the time and he will really be missed by many of us.
Ray is a great film...
but I actually thought Foxx put in an even better performance in Collateral...
That's not unheard of for musicians. Bootsy Collins of Parliament/Funkadelic was high as a kite while recording "Flashlight". He doesn't remember it being recorded, yet it is one of music's funkiest basslines in all music history.
JAMIE FOXX IS NOT RAY CHARLES!!!
As soon as the movie came out, I knew this would start.
"but I actually thought Foxx put in an even better performance in Collateral..."
I haven't seen any of the nominated pictures but I was hoping Foxx would win for "collateral" so Cheedle could win for "Hotel Rawanda" and that "Ray" would win best picture rather than "Million Dollar Baby."
Well, I was disappointed, although I'm still very happy for Jamie Foxx.
Next they will be wanting Raymond Massey (Abe Lincoln) to come down there and free the slaves. LOL
Foxx (whose real name is Bishop) was a high school quarterback who majored in classical piano in college. He was given up for adoption at birth and adopted by the same family who had earlier adopted his mother. The driving force in his life, however, was his grandmother. After Foxx achieved success as a standup comic and joined the cast of "In Living Color," he brought his grandmother to LA to live with him. He was originally cast to play a relatively minor role in "Any Given Sunday," but after the actor playing the QB dropped out, Foxx convinced Oliver Stone to give him a chance, and the rest is history. In interviews, Foxx said Ray Charles had a chance to "see" the movie "Ray" before he passed away, and gave it his blessing.
Then you, Quincy Murphy, should personally go buy the DVD, or join Foxx's fan club, or buy an ad in Variety magazine (with your own money) you freaking moron.
Since when is it the responsibility of tax-payer-salaried legislators to introduce resolutions at tax-payer's expense to show how much he and his fellow members of some racist "Legislative Black Caucus" happen to like a bloody Hollywood movie?
If ever there were blatant examples of government out-of-control, this has got to be in the top ten.
No way Bootsy Collins has ever done any drugs!! YOU LIAR!!!!
:)
No, he's not. But if you've seen the movie, you'd know that his resemblance of Ray Charles was striking.
Yeah, Foxx is getting typecast as Ray Charles.
*sound of crickets chirping*
