The hypocrisy of the Army Times
The American Thinker ^ | March 11th, 2005 | Douglas Hanson

The Old Guard of the legacy media is crumbling before our eyes, in large part because of the blogsphere and other alternative media. This is no less the case for the Army Times, which has finally published a series of articles and an editorial on military bloggers. In anticipation of this well-deserved recognition, Mil-bloggers such as Blackfive have been tracking the development of the Army Times stories that were just published Wednesday.

If the Mil-bloggers were expecting the Army Times to do anything different than the usual suspects in the major media, they will be sorely disappointed. It should come as no surprise that the Army Times would publish a smarmy editorial that merely parrots the views of their mainstream brethren. And, given the Army Times’ previous editorial stances, the editorial proves that it’s digging in to stave off its inevitable demise.

I USED to subscribe-I got the Marine Corps version-but got fed up with the blatant editorializing.

I did have to smile when they ran a poll prior to the election, and discovered-to their great chagrin-over 70% of their readers supported the administration.

I stopped reading the Army Times 15 years. Unfortunately, many (if not most) service men and women view the AT as if it were a publication with their best interests at heart. The sad truth is just the opposite...it's an overpriced rag whose only mission is to regurgitate old, often very old, MSM biased BS amateurishly disguised as journalism for and about soldiers. During its best days it was the source for pay tables, promotion lists, cut off scores, etc, but not any longer as these are all available much quicker over the internet.

With the advent of the internet and evolution of the blogosphere there are many more avenues available for soldiers to get timely and accurate military related news and opinion. I trust that growing numbers of them are availing themselves of these and cancelling their AT subscriptions.

I dont think it has any official affiliation with the military any longer, other than the $$ the troops give them at the time of purchase.

Yes, and like all the Gannet newspapers, which the various military Times are part of, refuses to allow Free Republic to quote their stories; not even EXCERPTS. I'm not even sure if we can publish links. In fact, maybe even posting this thread will get their liars', er, I mean lawyers' panties all twisted up.
