WSJ: Great Moments in 'Soft Power' (Senator John Kerry's gaffe)
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 14, 2005 | Editorial

Senator John Kerry's gaffe in outing an undercover CIA analyst at this week's confirmation hearing for John Bolton has been widely noted. Mr. Kerry used Fulton Armstrong's name when questioning Mr. Bolton about whether he tried to have the Latin America analyst reassigned.

But that's a foot fault compared with what the Democrat from Massachusetts had to say about Mr. Bolton and Kim Jong Il. It seems Mr. Bolton once uttered some pungent remarks about the totalitarian North Korean leader and the "hellish nightmare" in which his people live. And in Monday's hearing Mr. Kerry chided Mr. Bolton for speaking such truths.

"We all dislike" Kim, Mr. Kerry said, but "to personally vilify him was to almost guarantee the outcome of the diplomatic effort that [Mr. Bolton] was engaged in." The Senator blamed Mr. Bolton "for the abandonment of efforts that the Clinton Administration had made that effectively froze Pyongyang's plutonium program."

But wasn't it North Korea that first abrogated the Clinton agreement, ousting international inspectors and turning off their TV cameras? The Senator had a view on that too: "Whatever you want to say about the cheating -- and we all understood that that was probably going on. ... nevertheless, we knew where that plutonium was. We had inspectors in the reactor. We had television cameras in the reactor. Today, we don't."

Translation: If only Mr. Bolton had been nicer to Kim Jong Il, we all could still operate under the fiction that Pyongyang was living up to its 1994 commitment to abandon its nuclear program. Call it John Kerry's version of the Rodney King Doctrine: Can't we all just get along?

We may still have television cameras in those reactors. They are just not turned on.

EXPOSING THE LEFT is so critical. My advice to Mr. Kerry? If you ever come across a town that needs a dunce.....apply for the job....you're a shoe-in.

There are so many days like this when I just want to walk into the well of the U.S. Senate and give Ol'Horseface a slap. Instead, I just resolve to vote against his ilk, and donate more to Conservative causes.

Why doesn't John Kerry just shut up! Or maybe he shouldn't: he is doing very well damaging his own image and that of his party.
