VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Pope Benedict XVI said Sunday that the media can spread peace but also foment violence, and he called on journalists to exercise responsibility to ensure objective reports that respect human dignity and the common good.
Benedict made the comments during a brief appearance at his studio window to bless thousands of people in St. Peter's Square below, following in the beloved Sunday tradition of Pope John Paul II.

I did a search, so unless someone altered the title this is a unique post.

I love Benedict. After John Paul II died, I was quite fearful that the Church would capitulate to the hordes of moral relativists that want to change the Church simply because they don't like that the Church believes in a definite moral standard. I should have had a little more faith.
Not only does Benedict stay true to the Church's beliefs, he is not afraid to be public about being so. This bravery is exactly what Catholics need, since in many circles it is very unpopular to be a believing Catholic.

He ought to threaten Catholic journalists who purposefully lie with excommunication.
Let's bring back damning souls to hell.

Pope Calls on Media to Report Responsibly
Media Response:
"Kindly respect the chain of command Pope Benedict, send your request through God's Offices, and God can send it on up to us here on Mt. Olympus"
To: Caipirabob
Report truthfully. That would be a huge accomplishment.
To: Caipirabob
Uh oh. The liberal news media will ratchet up their anti-Catholic Pope bashing. I can already hear the screams of "censorship", "fascism", blah, blah, blah.
How dare he challenge the almighty liberal news media to be "objective"!

I am a protestant, but after checking a little on the new pope's history and bio, and he and his aids saying that even though the Catholic church is pushing an ecumenical agenda with other religions -- Jesus Christ is still the only Savior, there is no other way into heaven. Ever since historical criticism reared its ugly head, Europe has become a dark, faithless(evil?) continent -- my mystical feelings are that the Lord is going to use this pope for one last call to Europe . Yes, as a protestant I consider Revelation to be future and with this evil world and the Lord's intentions with this pope I think it very near future.

I completely agree with you here. Again, it's just a gut feeling with me too.
While Pope JPII was used as a sort of worldwide call to Christ, I feel that *this* Pope is meant to have a HUGE impact on the future of Europe (and possibly the US) specifically.

He ought to threaten Catholic journalists who purposefully lie with excommunication. That's a brilliant thought. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes you up on that notion. As posted above by another FReeper, this Pope has the courage to vocalize such sentiment.
A Catholic Pope. Will wonders never cease? ; )
