A few weeks ago I posted the question regarding Newt as a potential Presidential candidate.
This week, as the result (or consequence) of a brief conversation with a scale master in Pennsylvania, the idea of Tom Ridge for 2008 was developed.
He left Gov. of Pa. in relatively good graces ... he has (as far as I know) good paper ... he had a successful? stint as the first Homeland Security Director ... Marine (notice I did not say ex-marine ... Semper Fi!) ...
And now the time comes to throw this out into (out into?) FreeRepublic.
I'm inclined to like Ridge as a good candidate.
Any/everyone?
Not a chance. He's pro-abortion
Worth consideration, I am sure.
is he a possible candidate, yes...
but by the time the election rolls around, he will have been out of the limelight for nearly 4 years and that is an extremely long time. Why do you think Gingrich has resurfaced??
He does come from a key state electorally however, which may keep his hopes (if he has them) alive longer than they would be otherwise...
I say this being against abortion on a whim, but abortion is not the only issue voters consider when voting for a president. The prime prerequisite for a president of these United States is the ability to protect the country from our enemies, both foreign and domestic.
I said prime prerequisite.
The prime prerequisite for a president of these United States is the ability to protect the country from our enemies, both foreign and domestic.
--The President's job is also to set a moral tone. I won't support any candidate whose pro-abortion for the presidency, because they will have less qualms about appointing pro-abortion judges and it would also allow the pro-abortion people to take over the GOP.
yeah but if it were all moral tone, as you put it, Alan Keyes (referring to your screen name) would have won in 1996.....
there is not one single issue, other than defense, that will turn an election towards either candidate. This past cycle clearly illustrates that....
That was another consideration. If Ridge could finally break the Philadelphia and Pittsburg Dim hold ... we could offically become the red state that I think we truly are and it would take a whole lotta' illegal importin' to revert it back.
Wouldn't that be a good set up for future elections/administrations?
maybe....I dont know....
08 is still forever away....lets get through 06 first....
After years here on FR I have met many like you, that threaten and cajole over witholding their vote for single issues. Not one of them has explained how their single issue would have a possibility of coming to truition should the United States be no more.
There are pro-life people perfectly capable of defending our country. Who do you think isn't?
(My opinion - for what it's worth ......)
If the GOP were to choose Mr. Ridge, I could easily support him.
Exactly.
To be the articulate voice of endorsement after Ridge has achieved the Republican nomination.
Simular to how Keyes was the moral voice that upheld President Bush's comment about Jesus and his (at the time purported, but unknown to most) moral compass and sincerity.
Gingrich should not be a spokesman for anyone on personal morality.
My Vote.. <<- you gotta be freepin kidding..
What part about "have it your way" don't you understand?
I was just addressing your straw man regarding national security.
nah...gingrich came back to the surface for his own selfish reasons....he thinks he can make some noise in the primaries, but I dont think so....
