Sending it designated as a gift by the buyer's request so the buyer doesn't pay taxes on it. Doing so subjects both seller & buyer to persecution.

I would guess the shipper bought the postage online, and started the tracking process on that day, and then goofed off getting it to the post office.That wouldn't explain why there were no updates as it made its way to me. It went from "we don't have it" to "we've delivered it" with no intermediate steps. UPS tracking shows the arrival and departure scans at each stop along the way.
