Governor, NJ GOP Primary Poll (SurveyUSA): Forrester - 43%; Schundler 31%
SurveyUSA ^ | 6/6/05

Governor, NJ GOP Primary 6/6/2005
Forrester 43%
Schundler 31%
Other 22%
Undecided 5%

Data Collected 6/03/05 - 6/05/05
Geography State of New Jersey
Sample Population 612 Likely Voters
Margin of Error 4.0%
Client WABC-TV New York
WCAU-TV Philadelphia

Analysis: In a Republican Primary for Governor of New Jersey today, 12 hours before polls open, Douglas Forrester defeats Bret Schundler 43% to 31%, according to final SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for WABC-TV New York and WCAU-TV Philadelphia. 22% would vote for one of the other five candidates in the race. 5% are undecided. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 12 days ago, Forrester has lost 2 points and Schundler has gained 2 points. Forrester had led by 16, now by 12. Schundler leads only among voters under age 35, and does relatively well among regular churchgoers. Forrester is strongest in southern NJ. The large number of likely voters who say they will vote for one of the "other" Republicans on the Primary ballot creates a volatile situation: voters who do not want to "waste" their vote may, in the voting booth, switch to one of the top 2 candidates.

*** Filtering: 6,000 New Jersey adults were interviewed 6/3-6/5/05. 5,102 of them were registered to vote. Of them, 1,721 identified themselves as being registered Republicans. Of them, 612 were judged to be "likely" Republican Primary voters. Crosstabs reflect "likely" Republican Primary voters.

For those not following too closely, quick recap please?

Who is the rino?

Why would anyone vote for Forester when he couldn't even beat Lautenberg? NJ GOP = Morons.

Well, that's not Forrester's fault. The election was rigged by the State Supremos. Saying that, though, I'd vote for Schundler tomorrow for the nomination.

The answer to all questions:

Makes no difference. Corzine will slaughter any of them, unfortunately.

We can only hope Kane will win his Senate seat in '06.

Schundler's run against Mcgreevy wasn't much better. The best run in recent memory was frank against corzine, he came within 4 percent statewide which is an achievement in a hell hole like jersey. Forrestor got a raw deal he would have a chance against torreceli.

Corzine is going to pick that ultra liberal menendez to run for his seat. Hopefully the u.s attorney christ can run in 06 or in 08 for lautenberg's seat.

Woah.......

First of all, I think its spelled Kean or Keane, not Kane.

Second, Corzine is more vulnerable than you think. In 2000, a great year for Democrats (they gained four in the Senate), with Gore at the top of the ticket (he crushed Bush), and AFTER SPENDING SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS, Corzine only won by 51% of the vote...now, without even finishing his first term, he wants to turn around and buy another office.

No, I think Corzine is definitely vulnerable.

Menendez has personal issues a la Jim McGreevey.

I think Corzine if very vulnerable. My aunt, who refused to vote for Schundler the last time and voted for McGreevey said that she might vote for Schundler this time around on the stem cell research issue. But the big surprise came last night when a friend's very liberal public school teacher wife said that she was definitely voting Republican in the fall. These are people who I never thought would vote Republican. This suggests a lot of low-level anger out there.

I agree.

Corzine can be beaten, if we pick the right candidate. And the right candidate is the guy who has the best chance of winning the primary, yet is as different from Corzine as possible. We need to show stark differences between Corzine and our guy, and that's why Schundler is the best pick.

Forrester is another rich businessman liberal, and that's not going to cut it against Corzine. Schundler has the personality and is different enough from Corzine to seriously challenge him. He's also a moderate-to-conservative, which gives him a shot, as opposed to Lonegan who is far right by this state's standards.

I question this poll's validity. The Quinnipiac one seemed closer, and I've seen far more energy from Schundler folks, who actually positively support their candiate, as opposed to Forresterites, who are just negative towards everyone else. All the Schundler folks have to do tomorrow is show up, and they'll have this.
