Church won't host graduations (Students and Parents complain to ADL)
The Orange County Register ^ | Tuesday, June 7, 2005 | By SAM MILLER

Northwood High and Serrano Intermediate have moved ceremonies from Saddleback Church after students and parents complain to Anti-Defamation League.

Two Orange County schools have moved graduation ceremonies from Saddleback Church to nonreligious sites after the Anti-Defamation League raised concerns about mixing school and God.

"Our understanding is, because courts consider graduation ceremonies to be a compulsory activity, that having them in a sectarian venue is a violation ... of the First Amendment," said Kevin O'Grady associate director of the Anti-Defamation League in Orange County and Long Beach.

A graduation ceremony is not compulsory. They will mail you the diploma.

Having the graduation ceremony at SVCC probably would have saved the School District a ton of money... instead they had to rent out the Verizon Ampitheatre to hold the event.

Saddleback Church is where Rick Warren (The Purpose Driven Life) is minister.

At least the church's janitors won't have to clean up after all of them.

One senior complained at Northwood and a single family complained at Serrano. In other words, to appease two families, everybody involved in the graduations was forced to move from the church (SVCC) to two other different sites (Bren Center/UC Irvine, and Verizon Ampitheater/Irvine).

I suspect there is more to this story than what the OC Register has very briefly reported.

On the other hand, HERE is an article about homosexual activist in the teacher's union who wants to oust a church from meeting on school property on Sundays. The homosexual activist/teachers want to discriminate against THIS particular non-denominational church because the church adheres to biblical teachings on the matter of homosexuality and sexual sin.

The NY Press named Abe Foxman, National Director of Anti-Defamation League, one of the 50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers.....alomg with Jeanine Garofalo, Howard Stern, and Donald Trump.

NY PRESS NOMINATION: Foxman's ADL has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and civil suits for various abuses over the years—like spying on the African National Congress (and paid several million to a Colorado couple for wiring their phone calls and falsely charging them with anti-Semitism) — and yet continues to enjoy the endorsement of law enforcement officials (Abe collected several million tax dollars to train FBI agents how to identify hate crimes----but Abe didn't include hate crimes against Christians)........including a cowed media.

The superhumanly, self-righteous gasbag makes $450,000
as Likud's point man at the highest echelons of U.S. thought-crime enforcement, where he smears critics of Israel with allegations of anti-Semitism and honors the
memory of the Holocaust by allying with oven-chasing lawyers and those who would downplay the Roma genocide to bolster the case for Jewish exceptionalism.

Even fellow Sharon-shill Bill Safire wanted him to resign after his role in the Marc Rich pardon. For the book on Foxman, see Norman Finkelstein's The Holocaust Industry (Verso), written by the child of two survivors. Foxman helped block the publication of one of Finkelstein's earlier books in 1998.

Just another day at the ADL office.

our pastor in Woodstock, GA basically told the ACLU to go fishing when they complained about the 20-foot cross visible in our new sanctuary and 20,000 kids graduated this semester under that cross.

Good for him!! Eventually the fight will get tougher and tougher as the end nears. It probably won't happen in my lifetime but as the battle against Christianity becomes more heated it will become obvious to the elect that choices will be life and death ones with eternal consequences.

The ADL supports hate crimes legislation, and has called for an investigation in Guantanamo charges, et al. They have petitioned for the removal of the Ten Commandments from the public square, among other things. They are strong supporters of the most extreme views of the so-called "separation of church and state." They are against school vouchers, sought to suppress the movie "The Passion of the Christ," and have openly stated that Jews who become Christians cannot be considered Jews anymore. (www.adl.org)

Foxman has several times made comments which, were the religions reversed, would be blasted as anti-Semitic. I heard him with my own ears once talk about how, although they disagree with Right-Wing Christians most of the time, that such Christians could be "used" (or "useful") when it comes to the issue of Israel.

I am sorry. I know that on occasion the ADL makes a comment or two that we agree with. But this is a very, very liberal organization with an innate hostility toward Christianity cloaked in carefully worded legal terminology.

The ADL are not our friends. I have not seen any reason to believe they are, either as a conservative OR as a religious individual. I consider them a hostile, liberal group. If not for their efforts in support of Israel and against Anti-Semitism, they could just as well be led by Howard Dean.

and 20,000 kids graduated this semester under that cross.

Was that a graduation or an invasion? How many hours did it take to hand out the diplomas? Did they serve meals between the speeches and awards?

And I thought it was interminable getting through all the speeches and crap with "just" 350+ (My previous high school only had 300 TOTAL students.) in my graduating class.

Also, we used our football field, with plans to move into the gym if necessary.

Another case of Muslims attacking Christianity. Oh, wait: the ADL is not a Muslim group. It's liberal Jews. Never mind. It's only permissible to criticize Muslims, so I'll shut up.

What a waste of time! When you are talking about Saddleback Church, you don't need to worry about God mixing with anything!!

Better watch out. You'll be branded as an anti-Semite for insisting on telling the truth about Foxman and other Christian-haters.

I should read the article BUT I'm assuming the reason they're using (or were) Saddleback is because that church is HUGE.

Abe Foxman is a bug eyed foaming at the mouth hater. It's patently obvious the man's hatred runs deep. It's sad actually. I watched him on tv debate someone and it was like watching Cujo.
