LA County Fire Helicopter drops water on RACE fire 6/19/05
With the start of Brush Fire Season, here is the Brush Fire Thread.
Fires currently burning in Mt. Washington section of City of Los Angeles
"On the horizon
The landscape's burning red
Bushfire
Smoke in your eyes
Smoke in your eyes
If you feel something
That makes you warm all over
If you got a fire and you can't put it out
Got a bushfire
Rolling through a field of molten flowers (aaaah)
Burning in a field of molten flowers (aaaah)
There's a bushfire (aaaah)
There a bushfire burning, yeah (aaaah)
Bushfire
Bushfire
Bushfire
My mind's been going places without me lately
I need your arms to take me down
Take me to the ground
But I hold back
Get away from the heat
Hold back
In my field of vision
Hold back
Baby burning, fire
Fire in a field of molten flowers (aaaah)
Fire in a field of molten flowers (aaaah)
There's a bushfire burning, yeah (aaaah)
You better hold back, hold back (aaaah)
Bushfire
Bushfire
Bushfire
But I'm moving to the beat of a big bushfire
I'm dancing to the heat of a big bushfire
And the flames are warm and getting brighter
Whoo-hoo
Well everybody likes to dance around the heat and fire
Oh, lightning strike twice!
Hey everybody bask in the afterglow
Bushfire
Yeah, lightning strike twice!
Hey everybody bask in the afterglow
Bushfire
Naked light shining over my bed
Been lying here too long
I need your arms to take me down
Take me to the ground
But I hold back
Get away from the heat
Hold back
In my field of vision
Hold back
I see smoke
Smoke in your eyes
Bushfire
Bushfire
Bushfire
The landscape's burning red (Bushfire)
The landscape's burning red hot (Bushfire)
It's red hot (Bushfire)
The landscape is red hot (Bushfire)
Hold me in a field of molten flowers (Bushfire)
Hold me in a field of molten flowers (Bushfire)
Take me to the ground (Bushfire)
Hold me, hold me, hold me"

Scanners covering most of California
I saw the 5 acre brushfire in Lancaster yesterday evening. I happened to drive right past it. There was some crazy guy flying a chopper in and out of the vicinity. Those guys are nuts!
Nice pic! A CDF "con crew" hotlining the fire. Lucky for them it looks like the wind is blowing it back on itself.
There was a start in Tehachapi this morning also....needing an update to that. There is a new website to monitor smoke plumes in real time....and then the Geomac viewer for overnight fire lines.

Headline: Will California ever mow the grass before is catches fire?
The smart people rented those goats to eat the grass...
but no, CA never learns.
I saw goats in the Berkelely Hills during my last visit.

Fire destroys abandoned Old Town building
Flames ignite two brush fires; one home block and a half away threatened
By LEROY STANDISH/Staff Writer
VICTORVILLE Fire gutted an abandoned four-plex that neighbors said was a hangout for transients, drug users and prostitutes on Sunday afternoon.
Stiff wind sent hot embers from the fire to the northwest of the four-plex in the 15500 block of Fourth Street in Old Town Victorville, igniting two brush fires, one of which threatened a home a block and a half away. About 50 neighbors and passersby joined with the Victorville Fire Department to fight the trio of blazes.
"There were at least 30 to 50 people running around the neighborhood putting out the fires," said Scott Mottaz as he held a hose and extinguished the last bits of fire that scorched a 2,500-square-foot patch of dry grass and trash next to his home.
"There have been a lot of neighbors complaining for quite a while about the junk in the alley, this field and the other field that caught fire because it's a big fire danger this year."
The fires started just after 1 p.m. when neighbors smelled burning plastic in the air and saw flames shooting out of the four-plex.
"I was inside cooking and then I started to smell something burning," said Valerie Ladesma. She said she looked out the kitchen window and saw the flames and smoke next door. "Right then I kind of panicked."
Six engines, one truck and 27 firefighters from the Victorville Fire Department responded, said Chief John Becker.
It took firefighters half an hour to extinguish the fire. No other structures were burned and there were no reports of injury.
