Are psychiatric drugs as bad as Tom Cruise says they are?

In an unusually candid interview on last Friday's Today Show, Cruise called psychiatry a false science. Cruise's religion, Scientology, has long opposed the use of psychiatric drugs.

Whenever I want to know more about psychiatry or other studies of the human mind, I turn to Tom Cruise.

Yup, they grew up in the drug era, no wonder they, and no doubt Tom, love their drugs. Some admit to it others claim it is an awakening.

Didn't that sage Homer Simpson say something like "Actors-Is there anything they don't know"?!

I guess Cruise has never heard of mental disorders like autism, schizophrenia, ADD, hyperactiviy, chemical depression, trauma from accidents/attacks, retardaion... the brain can have disease and disorders just like the eyes, feet, heart, skin, etc. It is one whole human body and the brain is part of it and can have problems.

Psychiatry competes with Scientology for patient dollars, so naturally Scientology is against it. The viciousness with which Scientology tries to plow under its competition is notable however. Sci routinely blackmails members it wants to hang onto (i.e. those who can act as salespeople, such as celebrities, and those who still have significant assets or earning capacity for Scientology to loot). It's doubtful that Cruise really believes all this garbage he's spouting. More likely he got in too deep to get out, and so doesn't have any choice but to follow orders.

Didn't Tom Cruise give some speech for Earth Day way back when, where he said that companies needed to recycle and stop polluting. Meanwhile, he had just finished making "Days of Thunder" that destroyed many cars and probably created more pollution than most companies.

You know the high-ups in the "Church" have all the goods on Tom, and would spill the beans if he ever wanted to leave.

"Psychiatry competes with Scientology for patient dollars"

Well, that and L. Ron Hubbard was a diagnosed physcophrenic(sp? -- crazy); got kicked out of the Navy for having a fight with a phantom submarine; and, according to his public autopsy, died with injectible anti-physchotic drugs in his system.

In short, Scientology's hatred of shrinks is a reflection of Hubbard's hatred of shrinks who told him that he was a barking moonbat.

Would the "goods" they have on Tom have perhaps something to do with his sexuality ?
