LOS ANGELES -- A crowd assembled around a motorist being forcefully subdued by police eventually dispersed early Thursday, not far from demonstrators protesting an officer-involved shooting that left a baby dead, police said.
The gathering of the two groups prompted the LAPD to go on citywide tactical alert, which was later scaled down to a South Bureau tactical alert, a Los Angeles police officer said.
The incident involving the motorist started when a man who led police on a short pursuit that ended in his driveway at 84th Street and Towne Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. The man, whose name was not released, allegedly charged at two officers who had tried to pull him over for a traffic violation, police said.
As the officers struggled to take the man into custody, citizens filled the street, some of them agitated because of the protest taking place at 104th Street and Avalon Boulevard, police said.
The crowd at Towne Avenue dispersed around 11 p.m., but demonstrators at Avalon Boulevard continued to wave signs and chant slogans condemning police tactics, police said, and part of the the street was closed by police.
We don't need the Great Karnak or Miss Cleo to tell us there's a riot coming, it's itching to happen... I think I'll stock up on food too so I can stay inside.
Will the Latino neighborhoods be crazy enough to burn their own neighborhoods down? I tend to think other elements will use the demonstrations to engage in their own hijinx.
LE, good point. The tension between the Hispanics/Blacks/Police is rising quickly in LA county. Remembering the last riots it seems that there would be a more organized, outward rampage the next time around. Sitting down here in OC, this topic is mentioned frequently.
There was a huge gunbattle in Van Nuys last night...apparently some knuckleheads did a drive by shooting in front of the NORM'S restaurant at Sherman Way/Woodman, while some undercover officers were right behind them.....then the PD and gangbangers were sending hot lead in each other's direction.
Of course, most the officers in the city were down in South LA appeasing the dead ADW/molesters family and friends.
You're insane.
It's stating the obvious.
What does this mean?
the guy the LAPD SWAT team was dealing with shot a police officer, and was accused by the step daughter of molestation....of course, the media now call this guy a hero and victim.
Is it? I take Martial Arts and would edvise anyone to do the same for self defense.
Am I being irresponsible, too?
It's not as if he is saying to go out and start gunning down schoolkids or anything.
I'm pro choice on the Second Amendment. If I want to buy ammo and provisions, I won't force you to do so..
Life in Lala Land. You would have thought the powers that be would take a riot threat seriously, but I guess that's too much to ask. On the other hand, if Villagrossa puts down any rioting by force, folks like Mad Maxine can't yell "white racism".
Maybe he's suggesting that he'd expect all good FReepers to be sufficiently responsible to not have an emergency supply on hand already.
BK's story is exactly what happend during the Rodney King riots -- ammo sales were stopped at the worst possible moment for some good people. The bad guys, of course, just broke into the stores and stole the guns an ammo they wanted.
So go BLOAT, I sez.
And Krav rocks, too.
That it does.
Your admonition of Burbank Karl's 'irresponsibility' is what's irresponsible.
Karl gives great advice.
Wow. It takes that long now? These guys are really slowing down.
I don't care who posts what on DU...
They are a bunch of dopes who will be the first to wet their panties when the fire plumes slowly creep to their neighborhood.
Actually, I would say female attendance at the range I am a member at is around 40% of the total users...which is a lot higher than the early nineties. It is refreshing to see.
