Criticism of Suicide Bombers Censored at the UN
International Humanist and Ethical Union ^ | 7/26/05

IHEU today attempted to call on the United Nations to condemn killing in the name of religion, but were prevented from doing so by the heavy-handed intervention of Islamic representatives. The IHEU call, at today's meeting of the UN Sub-Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, follows moves by Islamic clerics to legitimise the current wave of terror attacks.

At this afternoon's meeting, IHEU representative David Littman attempted to deliver a prepared text in the joint names of three international NGOs: the Association for World Education, the Association of World Citizens, and IHEU, but was prevented from doing so by the intervention of Islamic members of the Sub-Commission. After repeated interruptions he was unable to complete his speech.

The Islamic members of the Sub-Commission objected to the speech as an attack on Islam. The text however(attached) is a report on recent critical comment on Islamist extremism by a number of notable Muslim writers and is a call to the UN Human Rights Commission by the NGOs "to condemn calls to kill, to terrorise or to use violence in the name of God or any religion".

The text referred to recent decisions by high-ranking Muslim clerics confirming that those who carry out suicide bombings cannot be treated as apostates and remain Muslims(1), a fatwa by a Saudi cleric that innocent Britons were a legitimate target for terrorist action(2), and remarks by Yusuf al-Qaradawi, dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University who has visited Britain, that terror attacks are permissible.

Commenting on this censorship, Roy Brown, President of IHEU said: "This is part and parcel of the refusal by the Islamic representatives at the UN to condemn the suicide bombers, or to accept any criticism of those who kill innocent people in the name of God.

The response to the atrocity in Darfur has been abominable. The US (Bolton) should move to defund this UN entity down forthwith as it makes a mockery of the term "human rights."

I heard from the rumor mill that an interim appt. was coming Friday. Take it with less than a grain of salt...especially after the Clement nomination debacle.

Very strange is this group of Islamic folks. I find it so difficult to get a handle on people who don't believe in Democracy and freedom and feel that killing anyone who offends God is justified (IE Van Gogh, Algerian Diplomats, Director of CARE). What is offending God, anyway? That's the most political statement I've ever heard. Why, for example, is setting up a democracy in Iraq an offense to God? Islam may be a religion but, its also a sickness in the head....an addiction to absolute power like none other I've ever seen....way more seductive than drugs and way more lethal and fanatical than Naziism.

We need a "Free United Nations", composed of elected non-Islamic nations.

Some one needs to point out to these Islamic clerics that they can't have it both ways ~ as Islamic clerics they need to either condemn the terrorist or stop insisting that lumping Islam in with the terrorist is invalid and unfair.

When Islamic clerics view statements like "to condemn calls to kill, to terrorize or to use violence in the name of God or any religion" 'as an attack on Islam' they acknowledge that Islam makes "calls to kill, to terrorize or to use violence in the name of God or any religion"and that these actions are not only condoned, they are defended

This is a crime against all humanity!

The demons want to be hidden so they can act freely to murder innocent people.

As soon as some "Hate Group" such as Senator Bob Byrd's Ku Klux Klan (KKK) or perhaps People Against Being Terrorized (PABT) decides to bomb a Mosque anywhere in the world, somehow the UN will jump in to Claim that such TERRORISM against HOLY PLACES is totally worthy of CONDEMNATION.

Sooner or Later Crimes against Humanity have a way of getting Humanity to respond in kind.

It is time for the UN to condemn the Suicide Bombers or get out of the USA Now.

They keep telling us only 1% of Muslims are terrorists.

Too bad that 1% is composed of Muslim leaders like Whahabbist Saudi clerics and the deans of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies......
