Just watched a legal expert on Fox go thru the disaster event by event. Based on the Law Gov Blanco is legally liable. If lawsuits are filed, there is no way she can duck it. In addition, when Bush went went down there, he offered her immediate deployment of Reg Army troops, she told both him and Nagel that she "needed 24 hours" to decide. This is DC politics. As everyone from Bush to Clinton to Carter learned, Washington Politics are a whole lot tougher then local politics. Blanco is toast. EVEN if the National Dems get the "Independent Commission" there is no way to rescue her based on the Law. I suspect that is why Mayor Nagel has been so quiet. He found out last Fri just who was holding the knife in his back, and it wasn't Bush

Hurricane Katrina hits Louisiana and Mississippi coast as a category 4 storm. A reported 9,000 people are in the Superdome.

The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

Bush tells "Good Morning America" that "I don’t think anyone anticipated a breach of the levees."
Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff claims "we have a tremendous array of forces that are currently deployed in New Orleans," as cable TV networks show live images of looting, Superdome residents awaiting evacuation and people stranded without food and water throughout the city.

By the way - the NO Plan of evacuation was to house the people in the Superdome with no "plan" to have food and water provided. Can you believe that?!!

Need some legal beagles to help out here. I was under the impression that state officials were pretty much insulated from lawsuits resulting from actions (or inactions) on the job.
There is no statutory requirement for the Gov to even have Disaster Relief. The Gov can declare a disaster and thereby free up some emergency funds. That's about it.
Do you have a reference for this? I was under the impression that the Superdome was not stocked at all. The emergency plan called for that to happen, but I had heard that did not happen.

This morning the "Reverrrrend" said the Mayor did NOT have the RIGHT to bus the people OUT OF THE CITY. Then as an after thought he tagged his statement with "if they didn't want to go".
However it was George Bush's fault because he and the RED CROSS were NOT THERE ON TUESDAY!!!
Nothing he said made any sense and Neil Cavuto tried his best but without acting like a crazed Democrat there was no way he could get a coherent sentence from the "Reverrrrrend".
May be Blanco or she may be inept and her DHS staff is where the real corruption (moral or legal) is. After all that IS the same office where the 3 officals are facing obstruction of justice charges
For Nagin's next election campaign...the opposition should put bus pictures up around town and simply ask...when you need a good bus...who are you going to call?
Even thought this week the MAYOR issued the "Use force to evacuate" order. Even though the City of NO own PLAN calls for the use of the buses. JJ is just another partisan bigot helping the Dem violate his OWN fellow citizens.
No I read this too but it was UNDERstocked in the reports I read. They did NOT expect as many to show up as did
FEMA cannot respond until the Governor requests their help. I don't know the exact time, but it was several days after the hurricane before Blanco requested FEMA assistance. I'll bet, based on the trigger of a Governor's request, that this was about the fastest FEMA response to date.
The disaster plan called for up to 10,000 citizens to remain in the city.
I just heard an interesting comment from a friend, about the buses. He has heard that the buses are insured and the insurance will pay for flood damage - but NOT if they were flooded during use in an evacuation.
Anyone know anything about this?

Sounds like people are making up b---s--t excuses for why they weren't used. No insurance policy would be written like that.
What do you think WE all are doing. The President has to be President of ALL the people, not just the Conservative Movement. It may make Cast Iron Conservatives happy but to most voters a President "fighting back" sounds like he is COVERING UP. Cast Iron Conservatives need to ask themselves "am I helping or hurting the agenda" when I spend all my time whining about Bush instead of helping GET THE FACTS outs. Instead of sitting around day after day whining on Conservatives sites, maybe I should writing my Congress critters to demand they investigate the WHOLE system, Local, State and Federal. See Moveon and other Hate Left groups use "conservative" whining about Bush to claim "bipartisan" support for their attacks. All this whining at Bush to "fight back" does is HELP the Enemy. Cast Iron Conservatives need to quit sitting on their butts whining and help FIGHT BACK.
