This inspirational video was produced by Adam Keiper based on the January Iraq elections. It is just as effective today. The music is Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man."
So you're arguing the Weimar Republic was not a democracy? Bwa-hahahahah.
There is no perfect government, not even democracy, which is why the classic Greeks never worried about the FORM of government but its virtue. And while we're at it, if memory serves, Indonesia "elected" some rather crude dictatorial types, too. And do you want to go to bat for Mugabe?
Democracy is great---I prefer it over any other form of government---but I'm not so foolish as to think it's a pancea, or that every democratic state will be a "good citizen."
Your right, you also need to be connected to the "family of nations". Part of that terrible thing called the "global economy".
Nonsense. Classical Athens---a democracy---was a terror against its neighbors long before any "global economy." The fact is, a democracy is moderately better than other forms of government at being aggressive, but it is no 100% guarantor of "peace, love, and brotherhood." Ask the Spartans.
Hey, I said since WWII, that was a bit after Athens, don't you think... LOL!
No 100% guarantees in this life. But the stats have the "connected" countries not fighting each other since WWII (except in the market place). These countries run from their rule sets, their own norms, and all the ties that bind our countries together in mutually assured dependence. Check it out, read: The Pentagon's New Map. The stats are all in the book/
Thanks, Jan, I had missed that thread. It's a keeper.
#135 She looks a little like Carlo Gambino, don't you think?
Thank you Howlin
Thanks for the quote, cgk, altho my screen got a little blurry and I had to read it over. Reminiscent of Winston Churchill and so true!
Thanks for the photo, NormsRevenge. Maybe someday Iraqi women will be able to shed their chadors and we can see how beautiful they are. Of course we won't see any of these photos in the MSM. I'm hoping the Washington Times doesn't let me down.
God Bless your son, SERE_DOC, and all those who are there with him, all those who lead them and all those who wait for them.
I have some idea of what you are going thru. My younger son was in Desert Storm. I watched the news constantly, hoping for a sight of him, and praying constantly. My mother had two Marine grandsons there--my nephew was on one of the ships, expecting to be part of the invasion. I know she didn't sleep much either. Both of our Marines arrived home safely. I pray your son does too. I know you are very, very proud of him.
Thank you for posting Tony Blairs comments.
Maybe AP should do some research re the "deep divisions" during America's constitutional ratification process. Any FReepers have any stats on the ratification of our constitution way back in the late 18th century?
AP wire alternative universe remind me of that old Star Trek episode where Goateeth Spock LOL!
