This week DC takes on a bigger fish than CAIR: The UN. And he does it with his inimitable flair...

What will happen if Europe and other countries decide to build their own internet? Does it mean our current internet will compete with theirs?

Frankly, this is all just more proof that the US does/did a hell of a lot, and the rest of the world is insanely jealous.

Reminds of the joke about the scientist who thought he found the secret to creating life and wanted to show God he could do what He did.

Scientist: OK this is how I can do it.
First I take some dirt..

God: Stop right there!
You get your own dirt!

Yeah, give the UN responsibility over something we built, own, and run to the benefit of everyone in the Free world. Right after I give the keys to my new car to my drunk philandering uncle Freddie, the one currently under criminal investigation. Sorry, but I'm still paying his bills for rehab. It wouldn't be very responsible of me to do that... but wait isn't "responibility" part of the PC ban list of boogeyman words? My bad.

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Al Gore - 9 March 1999

Tell the UN they better get permission from Allgore, father of the internet! LOL

It is too late for them.

Direct satellite internet is already here. There will be no way that any communist, socalist, islamic, anarchic, atheist, martian, or any other government can control it now. There will always be clever, freedom loving people that will be able to hook up.

There will be fewer and fewer repressive, mean regiems in the future due to satellite t.v., phones and internet. The light of truth is being beamed to all the dark places in this world.

America will never turn over control of the internet to the U.N. or the E.U. IMHO.

Another reason why I'm glad we don't have a Jimmy Carter in the WH.

Great. Let's let the U.N. turn the World Wide Web into the Third World Wide Web!

I'm not a big fan of the UN administration, but I also see potential problems with a separatist attitude from the US that might lead to a rejection of foreign innovation.

Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web while working for CERN, a European particle physics laboratory. The US created the physical infrastructure and continues to be responsible for most of the administration, but we shouldn't let our pride blind us to the contributions that those outside of our country have made.

The Internet was meant to be a global medium, and it would be a mistake to allow it to splinter. I believe the Internet is the key to helping countries like China with oppressive regimes achieve their own freedom. The Internet is far too important to the development of the free world to allow politics to interfere.

When I quit AOL the argument to try to keep me on was that I would no longer be on the INTERNET because it was made up of five companies, I remember him mentioning AOL, Earthlink, I think Internic and MSN, and one other. He said without subscription to one of the five I would merely have access to the World Wide Web.

I'm confused!

Under the current system, the UN cannot control or regulate(read tax ) the Internet. If they get their way they sure could.

Judging from way the congress handles the border. The UN doesnt have to TAKE the internet.. The Congress will give to them..

Very probable when Hillary(and Bubba) land back in the White House(2008).. with a phalanx of democrats and RINOs to back them up.. the farm then will be sold for condos.. The goose that lays the egg will be goosed for eggs, and lady liberty may get goosed also..

Theres a million stories in the big city Washington D.C. and most end with someone getting goosed.. The sheeple seem to like it though.. but thats another story comnpletly..
