Daschle argues Bush presidency "is essentially over"

DES MOINES, Iowa - Former Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle said Saturday that President Bush's presidency "is essentially over" but warned that Democrats can't count solely on Republican troubles to win in the next election.

"I don't think it's enough for us to watch the Republicans self-destruct," Daschle said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I think it's important for us to set forth some ideas that give the party an opportunity to define itself and to contrast with Republicans."

Daschle focused on increasing the use of alternative fuels and energy efficiency, and on repairing a health care system that he said is "the biggest single domestic problem facing our country today."

In addition, he said Democrats should confront President Bush on his policies in Iraq, calling for immediate withdrawal of 80,000 troops.

Daschle, who lost his Senate seat in the last election, keynoted the Iowa Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner, the party's biggest annual fundraiser. He said Democrats can make real gains if they can sharpen their contrast with Republicans.

Dashole knows the drill, Lie Big the MSM will regurgitate it forever as if it is fact.

Dashole is even more deceased than the MSM and just doesn't know it yet.

Daschle, please don't be short with us. It diminishes you. It isn't up to your perceived elongated stature of yourself. You are just dwarfed by such hatefulness.

Tom Daschle giving advice on political success is about as effective as Jimmy Carter lecturing on foreign policy.

Actually, Bush's term runs until Jan. 2009.

Clinton was in worse shape at this point in his first term, and it got worse in his second year (genocide in Rwanda, which he did more than any other outsider to allow to happen, and loss of Congress in the November 1994 elections), yet he survived.

At some point Bush needs to fight back.

It would be nice if the Republicans would get their poop in a group, like this week. Other than that, who is Tom Daschle?

He's still alive and breathing.

That alone shows that GWB isn't up for the job, IMO.

Bush and Dashole.

Bush lead his party to a third consecutive (2000, 2002, 2004) federal tri-fecta (is that a sempt-fecta?).

And little Tommy?

"I think it's important for us to set forth some ideas that give the party an opportunity to define itself and to contrast with Republicans."

Contrast with Republicans? Like what. They both spend alike. They both look the other way on the criminality of the previous administration. They both support an open boarder policy. To this day no one has been held accountable for the deaths of over 3000 people in New York City. The sitting republican president is actively whitewashing an investigation ,by Weldon, into the failure of our government on 911, to cover Clinton, and Dashole wants contrast. The only way for the Dems. to contrast with the Reps. is to become true conservatives.

Dasshole is correct about one thing--Bush and the Republicans have weakened themselves.

Bush and the GOP need to wake up and start leading this CONSERVATIVE nation who elected them. Conservatives put Bush in the White House, conservatives put Republicans in the majority in Congress, and it is high time the Republicans start acting like conservatives.
