Dear Readers:

This is my first post on FreeRepublic, and I hope it will be the best place to reach the greatest number of people with the following message...

This subject is of importance and concern to us all -- I am providing the link to the online petition site for "Molly's Law", which I hope you will visit and read what we, as a group of search dog handlers from all areas of Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue across the country, are working on to help combat the problem of lost, missing and abducted children and adults.

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MollyLaw/petition.html

Your signature will be greatly appreciated -- and please share this link and information freely with EVERYONE you possibly can! We need the help of all handlers and other concerned citizens to get the word out, as we plan to get the actual 12-point law we have written... passed as a National/Federal Law! Many thanks for all your support!!

PLEASE... take a couple of minutes to do this, while you are thinking about it. It costs you absolutely NOTHING, but is supporting a most worthwhile cause! You have my permission to cut and paste the message contained in the two paragraphs above, with the link, to E-mails you send to your family, friends, and co-workers -- to encourage them to also read and sign the online petition... and pass on the message and link to THEIR family, friends, and co-workers! This is a long process, and it is difficult to get the word out to the general public across the U.S., without the help of other concerned citizens. We want to get THOUSANDS (better yet... MILLIONS) of signatures, before sending the proposed "Molly's Law" to Congress. You can help make this grass-roots effort possible, just by signing the petition and passing the message and link on to others! Please do that for all the missing children and adults... and their families!! THANK YOU!!!

P.S.: To anyone who may question the need for, or the purpose of, the proposed "Molly's Law"... it is expressly intended to ASSIST law enforcement efforts, NOT hamper them! The overall plan will include a means for LE to better understand how scent-discriminating search dogs/Bloodhounds can help their efforts; and enable them to access this important resource, in the absence of their own department having this type of search dog.

It is further intended as an important "stop-gap" to the Amber Alert system that, while it has been successful in recovering a number of abducted children, does not cover all cases... due to the criteria that must be met in order for a child to be listed in the system. Additionally, it does not assist in cases of missing adults... for any reason! For those who wish to become more involved in this project, please let me know and I will get back to you... if this forum allows me to respond individually to you. Thanks, again!!!

Understanding Molly's Law

This was what I found doing a search on Molly's Law and it involved license plates. Maybe I didn't search long enough. that said.....

I certainly believe in the use of dogs in search and rescue, drug and bomb search -- and feel they should be used more than they are. A great example was their assistance in Oklahoma City

I wonder about the science behind this. Luminescence works for only a short while after the last exposure to light. If their example of a symbol is the thingie they show after the "ABC" license on that page, I daresay it will prove almost as difficult to get reliable recall -- and for some people it will be worse. And, one doesn't need to catch ALL the characters of a license plate to be able to do some good -- the story of the woman who now "can only look for white cars" would scarcely be helped.

Dear Malia;

Thank you SO MUCH for posting your reply, and for the link!! I checked it out, because it didn't look familiar to me, and I'm GLAD I did!! This is a new law (not yet passed, I hope) that is using the same title (Molly's Law) as ours!! I was unable to reach anyone over the MLK holiday and weekend, but first thing Monday I have to contact them about this.

We have been working on OUR proposed "Molly's Law" since mid-October of 2001... so we were FIRST with the name. If they would change theirs to the Bish (sp??) Law or something else appropriate, it would eliminate confusion and we would be happy with that!! It appears that they started in September of 2005. Our Congressman has been helping us with OUR proposed "Molly's Law" and, between our online petition and hard-copy petitions circulated, we have more than 3,000 signatures from people across the entire United States (even from Canada and a few foreign countries)!! All of the legislators in the 50 states received preliminary information on our plans and a link to the online petition quite some time ago; letters also went to President and Mrs. Bush and others, including our local representatives, and I have a great deal of documentation to support the fact we have been working on this project and making it public over the past 4+ years. It isn't WIDELY known, because we have no funds to publicize it... but we do have all the proof we need that we were FIRST with the title of our proposed law, including in our local newspaper.

A Google search of "Molly's Law" should give you the links to our online petition, which has the most information in the text of the preface of the law we have written. You can also copy and paste this into your search bar, if it does now show up as a clickable link...

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MollyLaw/petition.html

The petition site does not give the background, history behind the naming of the proposed law, and all of the reasons we NEED to get it passed (those discussions have been on various public forums and bulletin boards on the internet)! We hope to get some help along the way in developing a website that would contain all of the above-mentioned facets of this important project... but time and working on it "out-of-pocket" have hampered those plans, although we have accomplished a great deal on just a "shoestring", so-to-speak!!

Please DO go to the petition site and sign the petition after reading the Preface to the law. Then, help us by sharing the link with everyone you know. This is a very long process, without the help of other concerned citizens, and I really would like to see many more thousands (better yet, MILLIONS) of signatures before we submit it to Congress!! Thank you for helping with this most important cause!!

Sincerely,

Rummy2508

Dear Red Zone;

Please read my detailed reply to Malia... she discovered there is another proposed law using the name selected by us more than 4 years ago! These are two entirely different laws, although both are intended to help in the search for missing children and adults. Please check out OUR "Molly's Law" and sign the petition, then share it with others. We deeply appreciate all your help!! Thank you!!

Sincerely,

Rummy2508

Dear Blondee123;

Please read my replies to Malia and The Red Zone... it will clarify the discovery made by Malia, and for which I am deeply grateful!! Monday, I will contact the Massachusetts legislator and their newspaper that wrote about THEIR proposed "Molly's Law". We have to get it straightened out right away that we were FIRST with the title of OUR "Molly's Law"... which is entirely different than their license plate law!!

Please, then, visit our online petition and read the Preface to the law, sign the petition and share it with everyone you possibly can!! Many thanks for all your help!!

Sincerely,

Rummy2508

Dear Readers;

I haven't posted for so long, I hope this winds up in the right place... just really busy with a lot of irons in the fire. But it's past time, once again, to get the word out on the "Molly's Law" project and ask for people to visit our online petition, read the Preface to the law we have written, and sign in support of it... then pass the link and info. on to as many others as possible!

At the moment, I have something over 1,350 online signatures and almost 2,500 signatures on hard-copy petitions. This isn't even a drop in the bucket to show for the untold amount of work I have put into this important project over the past few years. We should have hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS, of signatures by now... but we have no grant or other funds to help us publicize, set up a website, etc., etc. I have been joining various forums and message boards and posting whenever I can, but that is just not enough. People have said they are going to sign the petition and pass the link on (and have good intentions of doing so), but become distracted and then forget all about it.

PLEASE... if everyone would sign and pass it on to even a few family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, businesses, etc.... and ask each of them to do the SAME, on down the chain of E-mails, letters, phone calls, etc., the numbers would grow TREMENDOUSLY in a very short time! I have seen petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatures, having to do with subjects of FAR LESS importance than this one, and the comparison dismays and depresses me! Each person should think about what they would want done, if their child or adult loved one went missing! The problem has to be fought on many fronts, and this is one of the most important... because a scent-discriminating man-trailer, called in promptly on a search, can do MUCH to help find or recover these victims and/or gather evidence! We have reams of documentation on the use of Bloodhounds, which is our BEST recommendation, particularly on cases where the victim may have been taken in a vehicle, and the trail is old and contaminated!

We should NEVER allow a trail to become this complex or difficult, however, before a qualified man-trailer is called in! The only hope for change, nationally, is through "Molly's Law" and the attending aspects of our overall plan, which is to also educate law enforcement and the general public; to provide contacts for these resources; and to encourage further training of search dog teams to hone their skills! Your help in making this possible is most deeply appreciated! Please refer to the link below, and permission is given to forward this message in its entirety, to any person, group or list that can be of help! Be sure to use ONLY this link... because there is another "Molly's Law", which is NOT the same thing (the one duplicating OUR name is a license plate law for MA.) Thank you for using and forwarding ONLY the link below!

Sincerely,

"Rummy"
