Dems Pick Villaraigosa to Rebut State of Union, in Spanish
Los Angeles Times ^ | January 25, 2006 | Edwin Chen

WASHINGTON -- Congressional Democrats announced today that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will deliver the party's Spanish-language response to next week's State of the Union address

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine will deliver the Democratic response in English from the governor's mansion in Richmond, Va., while Villaraigosa will do so in Spanish from his office in Los Angeles City Hall, said Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California.

The annual presidential address, before a joint session of Congress and a national audience, gives the chief executive the opportunity to lay out his agenda for the coming year.

Bush's speech will begin at 6 p.m. PST; the Democratic response generally begins about an hour later. The mayor's comments will be carried on Spanish-language networks.

This will be the third consecutive year that Democrats have offered a Spanish language response to Bush's speech.

Two years ago, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico delivered the first such response. Last year, it was jointly given by then Rep. Robert Menendez, now a senator from New Jersey, and Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.

Bush began editing drafts of his speech yesterday. He is expected to propose an array of new initiatives, including allowing Americans to take tax deductions on more of their out-of-pocket medical expenses.

"We are proud to have Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa delivering the Spanish language response this year," Reid and Pelosi said in a joint statement issued in both languages.

Wait, just because someone is "Latino" does not then make them communists-marxists. Villiarosa is "Latino," yes, but he's a communist-marxist. Oh, and he also speaks Spanish, so perhaps that makes him just fine and dandy to some other "Latino"s, or so some would reason.

Mostly, those who reason that way are Democrats, in my experience.

BTW, it's no surprise tat Villagarosa has presidential ambitions. Before you laugh, consider how many Latinos have entered your electorate.

Did Villagarosa ever pass the Bar exam?

I am sure all those running around bashing Riordan -- a previous great mayor of LA -- as RINO, RINO, are now very happy with Villaraigosa.

They will always be with us.
They will always be impassioned and shrill.
They will always be boorish and transparent.
They will never quit
They are a curse and a compliment.
They are partisans.

They will always be with us.

Too bad, they should start RINOS(R)US, except that without conservatives, they wouldn't have anyone to give them something to say.

They will always be impassioned and shrill.

That's the bad part.

They will always be boorish and transparent.

Not transparent enough.

They will never quit

But maybe they can move along down the road...

They are a curse and a compliment.

I desire neither, especially from them.

They are partisans.

No, they're not; else Bill Simon would be governor today.

The RINOs actually do stand for something: all the license of Cultural Marxism, but without the guilt to make somebody else pay for it, nor the craven opportunism to take a cut.

(His birth-name is 'Villa'....'Raigosa' is his wife's maiden name....they joined both their names to make a NEW name, ie., 'Villaraigosa'!)

Very politically correct and special, Huh?

I see you're still flouncing around FR shrieking your party-above-principle Hispandering GOP Big Tent blather.

Tell me, FO, except for a couple of like minded RNC RINOs who slither onto the California threads occasionally, is anyone really buying your line? If they are, it certainly isn't apparent.

Do try to keep in mind that FR is a conservative site for conservatives. The rest of you are merely tolerated, but not encouraged.

Don't be too harsh.

Live targets are hard to find. Especially those that get up and keep running after they have been wounded.

Take a moment to appreciate the courage that the FO account has exhibited on FR. Visit a liberal forum and engage the locals. See if its easy to be pepper with shot and still maintain your enthusiasm and composure.

For the sake of the sport I'd prefer that these accounts be allowed to roam freely rather than stuffed and mounted or caged, only to be observed.

"It didn't work that way, FO, because RINOs maintain liberal policies that manufacture more Democrats."

Being a party-above-principle RINO herself, of course FO is unable to contend with such reality.

"When the "moderates" make a mess (as their liberal policies must) people elect liberals to "fix it," except that they make it worse."

I'll just take a wild guess you are referring to the presently elected liberal, aka Arnold the Magnificent. You know, the guy that was going to cut the costs of state government and "blow up the boxes". So far, he's cut nothing, blown up no boxes, added a gaggle of radical liberals to his staff, and is spending and borrowing like a certified liberal.

"Villaraigosa got elected, because Hahn got caught red handed. To posit that conservatives were the difference belies the enormous margin by which Tony MeChA won."

Another dose of reality for FO and the rest of the Big Tenters.
