KFI's Bill Handel squares off with CAIR over offending them

LOS ANGELES RADIO STATION SQUARES-OFF WITH MUSLIM GROUP Mon Jan 30 2006 10:10:49 ET

Los Angeles's top talkradio station is under fire from a Muslim civil liberties group because of comments made earlier this month by morning man Bill Handel. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has demanded an apology from Handel for making fun of a stampede that killed hundreds of Muslims during an annual pilgrimage.

But the station and Handel are set to fire back, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Handel will apologize IF the Council on American-Islamic Relations:

1) Decries all acts of terror (described specifically, not generally)

2) Agrees that Israel is a sovereign nation with the right to defensible borders

3) CAIR has no ties of any sort, financially or otherwise, to any terror orgs or individiuals.

MANAGEMENT STATEMENT

KFI-AM does not condone making light of the deaths of people engaged in religious observances. We regret that listeners found the comments of one of our on-air hosts to be insensitive. KFI does not censor its hosts, nor does it tell them what to say or not to say. KFI is a strong and passionate believer in 1st amendment rights and that is at the very core of this radio station.

You have to admit he's an acquired taste. Some may find him...obnoxious.

Does he still bill his show as "Handel yourself in the morning?"

LOL, I had forgotten he used to do that! No, he hasn't done that in years. It was kind of funny, though.

I think what impressed me the most about Bill was on 9/11. Rush wasn't due to be on that day because he was flying to an event somewhere, but after the planes hit, Rush WOULD HAVE gone on but for the fact that his plane was grounded at some weird airport where he had to literally take a cab for hours back to his studio.

The only major unaffected station was the L.A. flagship KFI, where Bill Handel had been on for 4 straight hours already doing a FANTASTIC and thorough coverage of the events. They put him on Rush. He did a MARVELOUS job, and it's not like anyone can rehearse or do show prep for 9/11. He did amazing reporting and in-depth backgrounds and got Rush on the air from his cell at one point. It was an award-deserving effort and I couldn't imagine anyone else doing that well when the chips weren't just down, they were exploded into dust.

Anyone who listens to Handel will be offended eventually, because that is what he does best. His approach to the law is hilarious, and his program consists of satire at its best.

Is he the guy with the show, "Handel on the law"? We get it syndicated here in NC. Pretty funny.

He is an acquired taste. We both grew up Jewish in the San Fernando Valley (but he's a lot older, LOL!) so I am used to his style, but even I often listen to Doug McIntyre instead in those wee hours. I can handle Bill's obnoxiousness at times and even sometimes am in the mood for it, and sometimes it seems his soul is jollier than Doug's even if he's louder on air. Both shows have made me laugh myself awake on occasion.

Glad to see someone actually standing his ground against cAIR. There is no way cair will comply with what he has proposed though. They may as well asked for cair to admit that islam is a false religion based on the destruction of civilization.

He still deserves an A+ for his efforts.

Remember Michael Graham.
CAIR needs to routinely discredited.

Handel just read an apology to the people he's offended on today's show. A preemptive strike, I'd imagine.

Not to worry...Your search was fine; somebody just hadn't
yet got around to sticking some keywords on that other thread.
I added them onto the other thread, then soon after found yours.

"I do think those comments were in bad taste. Laughing about individuals dying while on a holy (to them) pilgrimmage is not exactly my idea of humor. There is enough in Islam to legitimately make fun of, and war against, that we don't need to waste time with this kind of crap."

Mocking muslims self-destructing during a Lemming-esque STAMPEDE is deserved no matter the "bad taste". Let's focus on reality and the truth of the matter, and not on delusional and politically-correct retractions serving terrorist muslims. Muslim/Islamics are dangerously weird, truth is...

Never, never, never underestimate the stupidity of an Arab. They have been marrying their relatives for many generations. Ironically, the wealthier one sufffered more since this was a mechanism to concerve wealth. The genetic consequences are walking around with rags on their heads right now.

Google the genetic analysis article about the Saudi's if you have any questions.

Summary: Arabs don't just feel inferior - some are.

Just saying, if you make jokes about religious pilgrims, say, dying when a bridge collapses, you better expect some arrows, and I won't feel sorry for ya.

Huh? So if a bunch of CHRISTIAN pilgrims are on a bridge when it collapses it's funny? Or only funny if it's Muslims? Pretty shallow thinking.
