West Beginning to See Wide Islamic Protests as Sign of Deep Gulf

Roots of Dispute

LONDON, Feb. 7 — As Islamic protests grew against the publication of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad, a small but vocal Muslim immigrant organization responded with a drawing on its Web site of Hitler in bed with Anne Frank. "Write this one in your diary, Anne," Hitler was shown as saying.

The intent, said the group, the Arab European League, was "to use our right to artistic expression," just as the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten did last September when it published 12 cartoons showing Muhammad, several of them satiric.

"Europe has its sacred cows, even if they're not religious sacred cows," said Dyab Abou Jahjah, the founder of the organization, which advocates for immigrants' rights in Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.

After days of violent protests that have claimed several lives, the conflict has pushed both sides across an unexpected threshold, where they view each other with miscomprehension and suspicion.

As the protests have spread, some Europeans have come to realize that relatively small Muslim minorities — 3 percent in Britain, 4 percent in Denmark and around 5 percent in the European Union — can wield power across the Islamic world.

"No longer is the issue merely that of belittling an immigrant group," wrote Jürgen Gottschlich, a German journalist based in Istanbul. "Just as there are heroes of free speech in Denmark, there are also heroes from the Arabian peninsula to North Africa to Indonesia who are ready to take to the barricades to defend their prophet's dignity."

Ibrahim Magdy, 39, an Egyptian Coptic Christian with a florist business in Rome, said, "The problem now is that when you say something or do something, you are not just talking to the Egyptians or to the Syrians or to the Saudis, but you are talking to the entire Muslim..."

I find ISLAM to be a cult that worships a false god. That is why IMO all the fruit of Islam seems to be poverty, abuse of their women and violence against every one by them.

A so called moderate Muslim IMO is an atheist version of a Muslim who is not a person who practices their religion very much.

That religion acts like more of a cancer than a religion in the world.

At some point I think there will be one hell of a world war over their behavior beyond what we are doing with the war on terror now.

Morons at the NY Times writing like this just started last week. What a load of crap from the fish wrap. Yahh, Times, you hypocritical bunch of left elitest morons, the gulf just started last week because of a couple of drawings.

This has been accelerating for decades and this clash has been going on for centuries. THey have even helped the process along acting as a appeasing mouthpiece for militant islam, dissing christianity every chance their miserable liberal self-hating asses can, and helping promote the actions of the middle-east against the Israel and the west.

It sure took the geniuses long enough. Us normal people figured this out long ago.

No GW...Islam is not a religion of peace. Islam is a death cult that must be exposed and defeated.

President Bush made it very clear that this is going to be an American World.

Not an Islam World, Not a Russian World, Not a French World, Not a China World, Not a Korean World, it is going to be an American World. And the world could not get a better deal from any other than the US.

If the Muslims need a prophet, then Bush is it! Not like that phony prophet they got, who was nothing but a curse on mankind. President Bush on the path of Jesus is the real deal, Mohammed was nothing but a perverted highway robber and cut throat murderer.

So I wonder how many Jews or Christians have burned embassies, issued death threats, beheaded people,or destroyed property since the Anne Frank/Hitler cartoons were published? For that matter, how many Jews or Christians did any of those things before this cartoon, considering that the Muslim media has been publishing far worse for a long time?

Interesting that Farrakhan hasn't said a word on the cartoon mess. I can't find anything on NOI's websites about it. It seems they're too busy praising Chavez and socialist Evo Marales in Bolivia and spewing over the passing of Coretta Scott King.

Of course, Farrakhan's flavor of Islam is blasphemous to mainstream Islam, so one wonders what the future holds there.

The intent, said the group, the Arab European League, was "to use our right to artistic expression," just as the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten did

And to mirror your comparison, the Euro's just launched 50 nukes at the Middle East, because they were "offended"

How ya like dem apples, Mohammed?

There are times when I get weary of being reasonable, and wish that we would go on a rampage when, say, a christian church is bombed in Pakistan, or some fool of a mullah spouts some pretensious nonsense and demands the death of this, that or the other person on the other side of the world who has "insulted Islam."

A good night's sleep usually restores my perspective. The fanatics hurt themselves more than others when they go off the deep end.

Still, it would be wise of them to remember the fate of others in history who made the mistake of pushing us too far, in the name of a fanatical religion or ideology. And when our ire was arroused, we spared no-one, woman, child, or innocent, in our effort to bring down the guilty.

Another "well, Duh!" moment from the Jackal Pack Press.

No, I am not exaggerating. Click the pic, go to "last," and read backwards.
If you are not informed about this stuff, you will be made sick. If you are informed, you will be made mad, all over again.

Then, there is this little matter still on the books, waiting to be settled. The account is still open:
