NBC's Gregory Eats Crow

NBC White House correspondent David Gregory ate a little crow Sunday on this "Meet The Press," apologizing for his arrogant behavior during White House press briefings dealing with the shooting of a hunting companion by Vice President Cheney.

Reacting to the storm of criticism leveled by the public at the Washington press corps for complaining that they were not told immediately about the incident, leaving the job of reporting it to a small-town Texas newspaper, Gregory apologized for his boorish behavior.

"I think I made a mistake,” he told host Tim Russert. "I think it was inappropriate for me to lose my cool with the press secretary representing the vice president. I don’t think it was professional of me. I was frustrated, I said what I said, but I think that you should never speak that way, as my wife reminded me, number one. And number two, I think it created a diversion from some of the serious questions in the story, so I regret that. I was wrong, and I apologize.”

But Gregory quickly reverted to type complaining that another guest, Mary Matalin, "and others in the White House have been eager to stoke this as a false debate between the vice president and the White House press corps, attempting to cast this as the White House press corps is a ping-pong in the culture wars.”

Then, in a comment that once again revealed how remote the Washington media has become from the American people, he made the astounding comment that "No matter how you feel about the White House press corps -— and we’re worthy of criticism, and we can take our lumps —- this is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the American people. We are a proxy for the American people. Whether you have faith in us or not, and we do make mistakes, we are still a proxy. This is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the public. My view is not that I should have been informed or others should have been informed. It’s not about that. It’s a question of, "Does the vice president have a responsibility to the American people to inform them of his public and private activities?”

No, they represent the liberal commercials aired on their network that generate the money. They sell ads to businesses who make lots of money selling products to liberals who watch and believe their news.

Where was this "reporter" when a married CEO of a multi-trillion dollar organization was getting oral sex, in his office, from the equivalent of a gal from the typing pool? (Blatant sexual coercion and power politics)

Yeah, the public and private actions of everyone is demanded from the "press" for distribution to "the American people" only when it serves and suits the "proxy of the American people".

I have to give a lot of credit to Mary Matalin - she is good. Very sharp woman, very articulate, and very strong (took no baloney from Gregory or Dowd, who was absolutely pathetic).

Keep it up Mary - you have many fans.

When will these nitwits understand that all they do is report the news. It was perhaps once important but it is only a trivial extension of the fringe of politics these days. It became trivial when they politicized it and robbed it of the one thing of value it possessed, objectivity.

As with the judiciary, once politicized, it became a thing of derision and nothing any longer of any importance.

On Meet the Press this morning, the roundtable that included Mary Matalin, David Gregory, Maureen Dowd, and Paul Gigot, discussed the importance, or lack of importance, of the Cheney hunting incident. David Gregory, the White House Press correspondent, apologized for the on and off camera fit he threw with Scott McCllelan, noting his wife made him do it. Matalin duked it out with both Gregory and Dowd at several points because the former noted the bias the press has towards this administration. Dowd kept trying to excuse that because they are so secretive, and David hid behind the “it’s my job” argument. Matalin, who finally got fed up with Gregory and the press hiding their bias, said that “you [the press] went on a jihad”. Thank you, somebody had to say it, and I am glad it was Mary Matalin.

Gregory is not even a good reporter. This week we really saw the unprofessionalism of MSM journaists

I saw Gregory's performance and was appalled. Could someone remind me why he wasn't tossed in jail for disorderly conduct? Such a move would send a clear message to the gutless vermin that passes for a White House Press Corps.

The very fact that Monsieur Gregory had to go on TV and explain himself proved that he was in damage control mode.

The fact that he had to have a third party tell him he was acting like an a$$hole speaks volumes as to what kind of guy this little a$$hole really is.

He thought it was normal to act like that, until someone else told him how normal, decent American people would interpret his bile slinging. So, he goes on national TV to apologize for being an a$$hole, in the hope that some day his photo doesn't end up in the encyclopedia, next to the word, "A$$hole".

A typical liberal...an a$$hole.
