NBC's Gregory Eats Crow

NBC White House correspondent David Gregory ate a little crow Sunday on this "Meet The Press," apologizing for his arrogant behavior during White House press briefings dealing with the shooting of a hunting companion by Vice President Cheney.

Reacting to the storm of criticism leveled by the public at the Washington press corps for complaining that they were not told immediately about the incident, leaving the job of reporting it to a small-town Texas newspaper, Gregory apologized for his boorish behavior.

"I think I made a mistake,” he told host Tim Russert. "I think it was inappropriate for me to lose my cool with the press secretary representing the vice president. I don’t think it was professional of me. I was frustrated, I said what I said, but I think that you should never speak that way, as my wife reminded me, number one. And number two, I think it created a diversion from some of the serious questions in the story, so I regret that. I was wrong, and I apologize.”

But Gregory quickly reverted to type complaining that another guest, Mary Matalin, "and others in the White House have been eager to stoke this as a false debate between the vice president and the White House press corps, attempting to cast this as the White House press corps is a ping-pong in the culture wars.”

Then, in a comment that once again revealed how remote the Washington media has become from the American people, he made the astounding comment that "No matter how you feel about the White House press corps -— and we’re worthy of criticism, and we can take our lumps —- this is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the American people. We are a proxy for the American people. Whether you have faith in us or not, and we do make mistakes, we are still a proxy. This is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the public. My view is not that I should have been informed or others should have been informed. It’s not about that. It’s a question of, "Does the vice president have a responsibility to the American people to inform them of his public and private activities?”

At least he didn't give a non-apology apology: "I'm sorry *if* anyone was offended...."

Think about it though.Who would have ever guessed that we would see something like that in print 20 years ago

You couldn't be more right. Gregory is a POS, and his apology is phony, but this was a look into the back room meetings at NBC news, where they are quietly panicing over their diminishing audience and zero credibility outside the moonbat fringe.

Just wait until the Oscar numbers tank this spring, we will see another dose of MSM panic set in.

that hideous connie and maury did a side by side eval. of them and the n.y times, they made belittling remarks because they covered human interests stories, recipes, upcoming carnivals etc, and they wonder why nobody reads the MSM papers or watch their weak shows. I hope they are cancelled real soon, the liberals are always looking down on real Americans

He was probably told by the White House that if he didn't apologize, he would be put in the far back corner and never recognized for questions again.

apologizing for his arrogant behavior...

The understatement of the year.

"I think I made a mistake,” he told host Tim Russert. "I think it was inappropriate for me to lose my cool .. I don’t think it was professional of me. I was frustrated, I said what I said...it created a diversion from some of the serious questions in the story

This is what you call "criminal non-apology". What does he think we're all idiots....like his collegues in the Press Corp.? What an insult.

Interesting that Drudge reported that the MSM wanted to drag out the story for another week. If they do, they lose even more readership and viewership. They are tone deaf in a world of alternative media.

Where do I sign?

It will be interesting to see if he makes any attempt at apology to Scott McCllelan during the next White House briefing. I know where my money is. Either way it will be fun to watch.

When a coporation is about to hold a stockholder's meeting, they ask stockholders to sign a document to allow somone to cast the stockholders' votes for them by proxy. I don't remember signing an agreement to allow Gregory or any of his Leftist cohorts to represent me by proxy.

These MSM types are so full of themselves. They really think their job is SO important. They don't realize that they have marginalized themselves because of their constant bias. And talking down to most Americans, such as referring to the Corpus Christi newspaper as smalltown, does not win them any support outside of NY and DC.

Here's a newsflash, MSM: As our proxy, YOU'RE FIRED. Leave the premises immediately.
