Bush Ignores Security
Sidney Daily News, Sidney, Ohio | Letter to the Editor

Posted on 03/02/2006 11:49:54 AM PST by HankReardon

Once again President Bush is placing our country and it's assets in he hands of foreigners while ignoring the welfare and security of Americans.

The recent port deal adds to a litany of unfortunate moves he obstinately pursues and defends.

When first announced, Bush said he would have not have approved the Saudi company's takeover of ports if he had any inkling that our citizens would be put at risk. How naive! Extensively publicized events revealed that two of the 9/11 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and also that a Saudi bank had laundered al-Quaida money. The possiblity that other terrorists could infiltrate (or have already infiltrated) the port company is real. After hearing criticism of the deal, Bush later said he did not know the Arab company's takeover until it was done. Is this the latest sign of poor leadership, an effort to mislead the public by sheer prevarication, or both? In any case, he has vowed to veto any effort by Congress to block the sale. Truthful concern for U.S. citizens evidently will not come from this administration.

Add to this fiasco the thrust to outsource companies and jobs to foreign countries through those unfortunate administrative agreements called NAFTA and CAFTA. Additionally evident is the increase in south-of-the-border immigration to unprecedented levels. That the president's efforts are leading supporters (and even persons such as liberal Ted Kennedy) to side with him is appalling, especially because of the horrendous billions in costs and drain on services for which we taxpayers pay just to support his lack of desire to enforce the law and stop illegal immigration. While terrorists are known to have crossed the border into our country, that makes no difference to this administration. As Pat Buchanan said, we have 50,500 troops on the Korean border but fail to defend our own. One consequence is, even if not attacked by terrorists, our beloved country is rapidly headed for third-world status.

Another fiasco certain to have disastrous results is the current debt. Under Bush, the nation's debt has increased to more than that under all previous presidents combined. Congress shares the blame, but Bush has not vetoed a single monetary item. That is unprecedented, and it points up his reckless abandon for the welfare of citizens, today and tomorrow.

Will renowed Walter Cronkite's suspicion become reality? He expressed doubts about the ability of Americans to save democracy.

This is an actual letter to my newspaper. He must think there is no difference between Saudi Arabia and the U.A.R. He must think it's an amazingly fortunate thing that the USA has not been attacked by terrorists for 4 1/2 years seeing how inept and reckless he sees President Bush to be. And he referred to the sale of these ports as "takeovers", I don't know what he meant by that, but it sure sounds wrong. How many similar port sales have occured during the Bush Administration and of these how many ever made it to the President's desk? A real question, does anyone know? I suspect it's uncommon for a president to be involved in such private dealings.

How about the nation's debt under Bush being more than all previous presidents? I need facts on this stuff, I'll be submitting a letter of my own countering these attacks. I understand it's healthy to have some debt and some debt should not be retired prematurely and a lot of other factors.

Aren't there many more jobs insourced to the USA from foreign companies than there are jobs in foreign nations from American companies? 5,000,000 new American jobs in 3 years seems like there would have to be more people working in America than at any other time in history.

I have not heard that any Israeli companies wanted to buy American ports.

Why isn't anyone getting their panties in a wad about the chicoms running LONG BEACH. And all you need to get in there is a DL. And even illegals can get one of those.

What's next? Putting Mexico in charge of our Border security? Some OBL's that call themselves patriots would cream their little panites.

Do you want the writer's name also? How do I know I should submit to your requests? I mean, you just saying you are an authority isn't much.

9Do you mean the Saudis are taking over our ports too. I thought it was the UAE. Oh well this makes as much since as a lot of other postings on FR lately.

The entire concept of this is flawed considering that the US Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security gave the issue a green light. If anything, Bush listened to the experts and ignored the kneejerkbots..

GrandEagle help me out! I don't want to be wrong, don't leave me erroneously thinking that there are more American employed by foreign companies than there are foreigners employed by American companies. I mean, your "no" argument does not convince me at all.
