A robber with a shotgun killed a New Orleans man in the Faubourg Marigny early Sunday, New Orleans police said.
Michael Frey, 28, was walking with another man in the 2100 block of Chartres Street about 5 a.m. when an armed man approached and demanded money, police spokeswoman Jonette Williams said.
As Frey and the other man handed over their money, the gunman shot Frey in the chest. The robber fled with the money, and Frey died at the scene, between Elysian Fields Avenue and Frenchmen Street.
Chief coroner's investigator John Gagliano confirmed that Frey died of a shotgun wound to the chest.
Williams said she did not think Frey and the other man lived in the neighborhood because they were walking to their cars after an apparent night out.
