But what surprised me the most was the coloring of these people. I guess I imagined them to be extremely dark, but their skin appeared to be on the lighter side. The pure blood Khoisan had skin coloring similar to most Asians, light.
There are no pure blood Khoisan's anymore. All the ones alive today have mixed blood with the Bantu (Blacks).

These Khoisan people are physically different than all other people on earth. The men have a semi-erect penis all the time and the women have a 'special' apron over their vagina. Also, the women's buttocks are larger than normal and thought to be for fat storage.

Khosian's have 'Mongoloid spots' too. Most Asian children are born with 'Mongoloid spots' that fade away with age. The spots look like bruised marks, usually on the buttocks.

They are excellent distance runners, small bodied and I've read one anthropologist speculate that they were the Leprachauns of Irish legend. They're shy, retreating, never fight and have a custom of staying up all night dancing around a fire.

Also, their peculiar physical features were recorded in Egyptian heiroglyphics(sp).

Australian Aborigines also have a Mongolian Dark Spot.

It because of these shared features (epicanthic fold, MDS, Size, Color and unusual features) that it is surmised that the Khoisan are the most ancient physical type existing today (along with Negritos which range from the Pygmys of the Congo to the Andamman Islanders to small populations in SE Asia to those in the Philipines, including the recently discovered "hobbits" in Indonesia).

Blam, I have read so much anthro over the years that I don't know where I read that the Khoisan are the precursers to Asians and Africans.

I haven't read that but don't doubt it. The humans alive today with the oldest DNA are the Oorang Asli people of Malaysia according to Professor Stephen Oppenheimer.
