PHOENIX Army Sgt. Jim Witkowski threw his body over a grenade before it exploded six months ago, saving the lives of three fellow soldiers.
The Army will posthumously honor Witkowski with a Silver Star for bravery in action at a ceremony in Los Alamitos, Calif., today.
Witkowski, 32, grew up in Phoenix and went to high school in Scottsdale. He was assigned to an Army Reserve unit based in Fresno, Calif.

Another amazing hero... they should be making movies about these guys rather than Cindy Sheehan.

Please correct my memory if wrong, but I remember reading that a Medal of Honor was once awarded for just such act of self-sacrifice.

They used to give out Medals of Honor for acts of heroism like this.
Anyone know if ANY MOH have been awarded since 9/11?

"Mother Sheehan" was right; our soldiers are victims of George W. Bush's evil twisted plan to destroy the whole world starting with Iraq. [osmium-grade extremely heavy SARCASM]

contrasting this self-sacrifice to john kerry finagling a silver star for shooting a fleeing 16 yr old in the back.
This fellow surely should have the MOH!

...they should be making movies about these guys rather than Cindy Sheehan.
The creator of NYPD & Hill Street Blues [never watched those shows] came out with the "real-life" Iraq tv show called "Over There" some time ago last year.
OIF Veterans & currently-deployed troops highly-dismissed it as [and I quote]:
"Bogus. False."

Cpl. Jason Dunham was nominated for the Medal of Honor for a similar act. I hope President Bush approved it.

There are many like him who deserve to be remembered. I wish Hollywood would make a series of heroes like Jim Witkowski, Neil Roberts, Jason Dunham, Pat Tillman and many others.

60 Minutes/Dateline, etc. could at least do honest bio's of these heroes rather than going for the anti-war angle on every Iraq story.
To: Al Simmons
1 that I know of, Sgt Smith, US Army.
check a MOH website for more.

He should get the MOH, or at least the DSC.
To: SandRat
That action should deserve, and used to deserve, a Medal of Honor.
