Bingo. Right now she is furiously raising money without the regular DNC machinery. She will have unprecedented absentee votes from care facilities and mental institutions, record number of illegal alien votes, and 125% of the registered voters in Philadelphia. With the millionaires behind her, she has unlimited funds. Campaign finance fraud does not matter. She will pay a small fine latter. So what.
I have a different take, LNV. The press wants to choose the person on our side because they don't want a real conservative. They would, of course, love to have Hillary, but they could live with McCain. They want to choose our candidate so that, whoever wins in 2008, it is someone they can stomach. If our side had a choice, we would perhaps push for them to nominate Lieberman. We, of course, don't agree with him in most areas, but in the war on terror, I think we could live with him if he won.
You may be right about the press' motives. But the fact remains that the choice of who runs for the Republicans is in the hands of primary voters, and that's us. I know I never miss a primary.
If McCain's brain was one-tenth the size of his ego, he'd have never consorted with Kennedy on that travesty of an amnesty bill. That has sunk him in the primaries, because his conservative opponents, if they're smart, will hang it around his neck like a noose. McCain forgot, in all his courting of the media and reveling in the "maverick" moniker, that the first hurdle of the presidential race is the Republican base. And I don't know one conservative who would vote for him in the primary, Fallwell notwithtanding.
