You can't say Angela Jolie doesn't think big - with your tax dollars. In an interview aired on this morning's Today show, Jolie advocated applying the No Child Left Behind Program . . . to every child in the world, courtesy the American taxpayer.
Ann Curry, Today newsreader and NBC Dateline host, had interviewed Jolie during her recent trip to Africa to promote education. At one point, Curry made this somewhat surprising observation to the Hollywood star:
"There is another very famous person who talks about education. And you sound a lot like her: Laura Bush."
Jolie engaged in a, no pun intended, pregnant pause and a nervous chuckle. You could hear the gears grinding as she seemingly asked herself 'just how political can I get here?'
Curry nudged her: "Actually, she talks a lot about this issue, specifically educating girls."
Jolie: "She should nudge her husband."
Curry: "Well, I think she does."
Continued Curry in a surprising bit of fairness to the administration: "And I think it also could be said that the US does spend a considerable amount of money helping poor people get educated. So what's your message?"
That's when Jolie went global: "No child left behind means no child left behind. And that isn't [just] with what we feel we can give right now, but with whatever it takes. Britain gives three-times more than us right now. They are not richer than us. So I don't know what the great excuse is."
Back in the studio, Katie, Matt and Al had to restrain themselves from breaking into worshipful applause at Jolie's performance. Amidst expressing extensive concern about the intrusions of paparazzi , the crew offered up these nuggets of praise:
"She has done her homework. There are some celebrities who promote a cause and you feel they are there for a photo-op. But she's done the research."
"The real deal."
"A powerful girl."
"She's spent so much time there."
"She seems relaxed - I would be a nervous wreck."
A lot of us might be nervous wrecks - if Jolie and her friends ever got hold of Congress and the White House!
Please, would you keep her over there.
Regards, Ivan
I'm a strong advocate for "No wife left behind", Angie.
"Because she is stupid. To say that "Laura Bush should nudge her husband" shows just how stupid Jolie is. "
Sounds the opposite to me. She used an opportunity to politely advance her mission. If you don't like her, fine, but she's far from stupid.
Having been to Cambodia and other third world countries, I think her efforts are quite admirable and I applaud her for them. She's not being ugly with her demands, but she is trying to bring attention to the plight of the worlds hopeless children.
Not enough antibiotics in all the earth to make that appealing IMHO.
Alright, then...how about this:
It's about as likely as David Spade dating Heather Locklear. Nevermind.....that's a bad example.
She's eaten Brad Pitt. Now she's going to try to eat the world.
Uh, you misspelled KIELBASAS!
We are suppose to listen to someone who just recently acquired morals? Besides, let her park her jet, and keep up whatever country is the flavor of the moment.
:)
Why is it that the MSM have to run to Hollywood for their opinions? Do they really think we care what Angelina Jolie thinks about saving the world or what Sean Penn thinks of the situation in Iraq??? Most of these people are high school drop-outs.
And a hazard that would be... The Empire is in peril... maybe they could both be camp followers for the Royal Marines after a few pints before they get much more worn?
Though I doubt any respectable Royal Marine would oblige their services...
Whenever I want to better understand world events, I turn to Angela Jolie.
But let one poor African slip past the security (including live lions) and take up residence in an unoccupied bungalow in that resort she has booked for privacy, and he or she will be booted out immediately.
I don't hold too much of a grudge against her because she does take the time to actually familiarize herself with the issues without becoming overtly political, but it would help if she would remember that Republicans form part of her fundraising base.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
She must be a conservative........
:-)
I can't post a picture here that shows that!
