Bill took the presidential veto pen with him, along with the white house silverware.

Anybody know what the correct statement is that Cobern used in his last paragraph? expediency asks if it is ________?

I don't think "popular" was the correct word there, as it was the word in the 3rd phrase.

I really hope Coburn makes a go at it in '08.

A conservative needs to sneak line item veto power in the middle of the pork one of these days!

That would fix some of this crap!!

Don't sign this bill until all earmark spending is eliminated

Look at states where governors have the line-item veto and ask yourself if they're any less pork-packed than the ones that don't. I don't think they are.

Better yet, how about we nominate and elect a real conservative Republican to be our next POTUS? That would solve many issues. Spending reforms, limit government expansion and actual immigration reform would set the record straight.

On domestic issues, there is little about Bush that IS conservative.

"It is wrong, for example, for this body to fund pork projects like grape research in the state of California then force the taxpayers in my state and every other state to pay for a so-called ‘emergency’ project that has been ongoing for the last 46 years and has already received more than $130 million from the American taxpayer."

Yup. "Emergency" appropriations are the secret credit card the gvt doesn't want us to notice.

Sounds like a plan. But can a true conservative beat back the liberals right now?

"But can a true conservative beat back the liberals right now?"

They're the only ones who can. Squishy Republicans sure can't.

>>>>Sounds like a plan. But can a true conservative beat back the liberals right now?

When its advanced, conservatism always triumphs over liberalism. Reagan didn't have a GOP Congress, yet he changed the direction of American politics and set a conservative governing course for America. Newt Gingrich came along and won a huge victory for conservatism and the GOP. Yes, it can be done.

Obviously, the course that PresBush and the GOP Congress has set for the future of the federal government is not a direction that will lead to sound decisions and fiscal responsibility. The federal government is headed down a path of increased welfare entitlement spending, a larger federal bureaucracy and of course, continued open borders and some form of amnesty for criminal immigrants.

While the liberals and their media cohorts make a lot of noise, they have no power. The GOP controls the whole show in WashDC, however, they haven't used that power to craft a conservative government. The GOP has basically wasted an historic opportunity to reshape American politics.

C'mon Mr. President. Get the veto pen and veto this bill. It's not that tough, really. C'mon ... you can do it ... yes ... there you go ... it won't be so bad ... all you have to do is sign your name ... it's simple, really ... and you'll still get up tomorrow morning, the sun will shine and America will still be a great place.
