If he vetos this, the dingbats on the Left will say he is against the troops. Of course, they say that anyway so what the hell?

I hope the true conservatives jump on the important issues.
I totally agree with your tagline, lets hope we can get those in Washington to follow through!!

Anybody know what the correct statement is that Cobern used in his last paragraph? expediency asks if it is ________?I don't think "popular" was the correct word there, as it was the word in the 3rd phrase.
No, the correct word was "politic."

If GWB vetoes this boondoggle, his poll numbers would instantly rise 10% because disillusioned conservatives will get back on the train. And, of course, the MSM and the 'Rats will scream bloody murder.
Which means that he'll probably sign it into law. :-(

We start by electing people (like Coburn) who are committed to tackling the problem. A line-item veto is just a gimmick that could end up worsening the problem, by giving the President the power to reward and punish individual Congressmen.

A conservative needs to sneak line item veto power in the middle of the pork one of these days! That would fix some of this crap!!
What things do you think Clinton would have vetoed with a line item veto?
What if we had Carter back as President?
Be careful what you wish for.

Well stated description of leadership, versus...whatever it is we now have.

But can a true conservative beat back the liberals right now? That's a heck of a good question, despite Reagan Man's excellent description of leadership. The problem is that, in the eyes of swing voters, Bush's ineptitude (or worse) has tarred conservatism with a bad name, no matter that he isn't conservative at all. I think his harm to the conservative movement is much deeper than most realize, and a true conservative will carry that baggage.

The problem is that, in the eyes of swing voters, Bush's ineptitude (or worse) has tarred conservatism with a bad name, no matter that he isn't conservative at all. I think his harm to the conservative movement is much deeper than most realize, and a true conservative will carry that baggage.Conservatives need to be decisive when it comes to the subject of Bush. The things that he truly is blameless or praiseworthy for, they need to defend him convincingly. The things that he's culpable for, they need to say so, without reservation. But this constant muddling along of giving him nominal support, but maintaining a mostly nervous silence about him, is a really bad strategy. Voters can see right through that kind of stuff.
