MERC (New Army ration) request for information [Vanity]
n/a ^ | 05/05/2006 | Neutrino

I've heard that a new MRE component is being manufactured, but there seems to be limited information about it. Here's what I've found so far:

Pocket Food (Includes a picture)

And an older item that discusses the matter at:

seabeecook

The second article mentions GoodMark Foods Inc., which has been acquired by ConAgra.

Anyway, I'm curious - has anyone come across such things? Who is the contractor that produces the components? How do they taste? Is there a viable (and legal) source?

Yours for culinary excellence,

Neutrino

I guess it does, doesn't it? But I suspect the MERC is more akin to the "hot pocket" than anything else...

This has been a long term effort, I hope it is paying off.

Food for thought is this stirring promotional effort by the makers,

"She said the shelf-stable sandwiches were acceptable to soldiers who tried them, and they meet Food and Drug Administration requirements for food safety."

Kinda makes you think the first series won't be delightful.

Gad! The manufacturers are damning with faint praise!

Still, thanks for the comment!

Most anything would beat the old C-Rats we were treated to, or the K's for that matter.

I don't know, the square beans and franks were pretty good. Spaghetti was all right too.

The freeze dried pork patties were excellent. So were the freeze dried hamburger patties.
