If you dont want to fight for it, then enjoy having nothing. No one is going to give you a win because you can cut and run.
One of the problems with too many conservatives is that, once the election is over, they sit back and expect its all suppose to run itself. While the libs stay on the DNC rear 24/7, win or lose. that's the biggest reason why you get what you see today.

And I might add the only reason we got Reagan, was the utter defeat of Ford by no-name Jimmy Carter when conservatives decided that they needed to give the republican party a real enema by sitting out the election of 76. It worked and we finally got control of the party only to again lose it to the same perennial losers, the eastern establishment republicans and the left wing press barons. These people will keep control of the party until the party is thrown out of power and then they will go back to their preferred party the democrat party.
As long as the east coast liberal republicans are in control they will continue to take us down the road to serfdom. A little slower than the socialist left democrats but the same road nevertheless.
