U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)
Daily Bulletin ^ | 5/9/2006 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 05/09/2006 6:21:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.

"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.

"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."

Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.

"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.

"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

That wasn't the impression I got.

I hardly think your impressions are reliable when your first thought about why I'd mention my investment in the republican party was all about you.

I saw it and didn't initially believe it but was ultimately persuaded it's true. And outrageous.

The White House has denied it, per ABC News.

Perfect post....

Thanks. I pray the people catch on and take this country back before it's too late. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Sadly, I think it's already too late to stop the inevitable crash that's coming. I'm blessed to have an exit plan, the means, and a good head so I'll survive, but most others won't recover.

That's O.K. with me if you don't believe I honestly mistook the word "expel" with "exile".

So far, I've not seen one iota of proof that this is true.

Have you seen the Mexican sites? Seem to support most of the article to me. Have you seen one iota of of proof that it is false?

I didn't see one word about the Border Patrol giving the Mexicans Minutemen locations.

Jumping offside has become the order of the day around this place.

If the White House denies it is true, that ought to be enough.

>>The White House has denied it, per ABC News<<

Does that mean THEY didn't do it, or they can state categorically that nothing of the kind happened, no way, no how, never?

If so, that sure was a quick investigation they conducted. Not like the "in-depth" one I'm sure they want over high gas prices.

Travis is not here to defend himself, rather tacky to bring him into this. BTW, I think Travis was only stating what many of us who live on the border have known for some time about what the end result will likely be of this failed border policy. In my opinion Travis' banning from FR was nothing more than punishing the messenger.

The White House is not investigating the oil companies. Bush said that to shut the liberals up. And, it worked.

Howlin, do you have a link to a WH statement? There's a lot of points in the story so there may very well be attemps at cooperation by the Mexican government at some local level. Though why local officals would cooperate when they are being shot at by drug runners and others dressed up in military uniforms (as has occurred east of El Paso) is beyond me.
