And every movie that encourages people to worship material things, use God's name in vain, glorifies murder and mayhem, promotes casual sex and adultery, is not blasphemous?
I mean I'm no fan of this movie, but the attack on this specific movie compared to all the other garbage that is not attacked is getting ridiculous.
To: The Ghost of FReepers Past
It is offensive and if this was about Moses being a gay butcher, there would be a price to pay.
If this was about Mohammad (piss be upon him) there would be tolerance towards the making of the movie.
IMO Christians are more secure about themselves and don't mind the garbage that much, because they know it is bunk and figure all involved are ignorant fools.

Thank you for posting this. The writer's points are very well stated.
This article is especially aimed self-identifying Christians who's only retort seems to be, "It's only fiction".

Its just a movie. A work of fiction. Take a stresstab!

Well, as he indicates on his website, he's to the right of Attila, and even Pat Buchanan. His hit piece here supports that. It was a good fun book. That's all. No history, no dogma other than his fictionalized accounts. Screaming about heresy, lies and blasphemy will not affect anyone outside of the Christian Right, and to my knowledge, none of them have either read the book or plan to see the movie.

I'm trying to figure out what exactly is blasphemous about the movie. First of all I understand the book and movie are fiction but nonetheless I'll indulge ya'll by taking it seriously for a few seconds.
What if Jesus did have a baby with Mary Magdelene? How does that affect his alledged divinity? Only Mary his mother need be the virgin, correct? I haven't seen or read the "code" so perhaps I'm missing other things that are considered to be blasphemous.

Isn't THE DA VINCI CODE really about mohammad?

I don't go to the cinema so haven't seen the movie, but I have read - and enjoyed - the book, which I purchased from the
fiction section at Barnes & Nobles.
Nothing in the book changed my Christian beliefs. If some folks are swayed by the Da Vinci Code perhaps their beliefs were not very strong in the first place.

As a recovering catholic, I left the church a long time ago. The hocus-pocus stuff, partiarchy, anti-sex, dark-forbooding atmosphere, and guilt-as-a-cult did not mesh with my idea of what God wanted.
Having read the Davinci code, and done some research, I am more likely to come back to christianity. Seems to me that God wants families, and no guilt over sex. Jesus marrying, and having a kid, appeals to me.
As far as opus die, etc., I've been exposed enough to fruitcakes hiding behind their version of religeon. Those types, and the folks who insist that words in a book compiled by an emperor are the last word, drive people away.
Just like Christmas is not Christ's birthday.

Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.
"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged about the thriller's controversial plot concerning Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.
Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.
"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."
The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film.
Lomas says, "In an ideal world I'd quite like to have been played by Mel Gibson."
