""We have a curious situation in American where the religious right... really do believe they are in possession of absolute truths.... Our number one threat abroad is fundamentalism, absolutism. Terror is their tactic, but it is their ideas, their hatred, their absolute certainty that they are so right that they can kill people who disagree with them -- that is our enemy."

I guess Bill answered the question I asked during the 2004 DNC Bidden speech. (See below)

566 KB wmv file of Sen. Joe Biden's Comments at 2004 DNC
Transcript:

Our friends on the other side love to quote the Bible.
Just as Joshua's trumpets brought down the walls of Jericho, just as American values brought down the Berlin Wall,
So will radical Fundamentalists fall to the terrible swift power of our ideas as well as our swords.

It is clear that Biden, like clinton, is conflating the Religious Right and the islamofascist terrorist.

Otherwise:

  • Biden would not have referenced the Religious Right. He would have fingered the terrorists.

  • He would not have referenced the Old Testament. He would have quoted the Koran.

  • And he would not have used the term 'radical fundamentalists' in his conclusion. He would have used 'terrorists' or 'islamofascist terrorists,' i.e., 'so will the terrorists (or islamofascist terrorists) fall to the terrible swift power of our ideas as well as our swords.'

The clintons and the Left fear the Religious Right politically.

At a minimum, the strategy of the clintons and the Left is to marginalize the Religious Right.

In the end, their plan is to quash them.

The clintons and the Left will continue to attack Evangelical Christians by equating them with the islamofascist terrorists. (How better to get the support of all other Americans?)

Their tactic is conflation and their implicit argument is that fundamentalism is both a necessary and sufficient condition for terror; that the Religious Right are terrorists and must, therefore, be quashed.
