What does "Ping" mean?

I see so many people asking to be put on the 'ping list', what does that mean?

I also see that you can be 'pinged' if something you are interested in is posted. Are you notified someway?

BTW: I didn't know what a "ping" was at the time. I thought I was the victim of a form of spam. Also BTW: I don't know how pinging is done, or why it's called pinging. I thought that was a term from sonar.

Recently, not only did I misread a post but my math in the response was completely screwed up. I deserved some kind of demotion and dock in pay. Hopefully, I will not repeat the experience, however, I do know enough to understand that is probably wishful thinking. ; )

Lights back on?

Dang...we've been without power most of the day. Our main generator was HOSED. Well, we had power when the city gave it to us in two short little incremements (that we had to BEG for.)

And it was about a million degrees out. We had to fire up the barbecue grills in order to have dinner.

Now, everything's all fixed and we have power now and we're all happy campers.

And we get to goof off by the pool tomorrow for the Fourth - BBQ and beer and all that good stuff.

Sanity is restored on the compound.
