Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Albertini was arrested for public intoxication Thursday night in Knoxville, sheriffs officials said.
According to a corporal at the Knox County Sheriffs Office Detention Facility, Albertini was booked into the jail at 1:07 a.m. He was released at 6:04 a.m. today after his arraignment, and the charges were dismissed.
It was not immediately clear where Albertini was arrested or the actions that led up to the arrest.
A message left with the Albertini campaign was not immediately returned this morning. State Republican Party officials and the sheriffs department also didnt immediately return calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Earlier Thursday evening Albertini attended a Republican rally at Elizabeth Lane Farm in Knoxville. The event was billed as an opportunity to hear Republican U.S. Senate and gubernatorial candidates speak for five minutes each about their campaign goals.
Albertini, a real estate developer from Chattanooga, faces an uphill primary battle against state Sen. Jim Bryson. In his most recent campaign finance report, Albertini said he had raised $500 less than 1 percent of Brysons $520,000 haul.
Albertini appeared at Brysons campaign kickoff event last month in Chattanooga and said his opponent "has not worked to cut spending" while in the Legislature.
His campaign Web site says that among his top issues are opposition to abortion, illegal immigration and the state pension system.
A total of seven Republican candidates are running in the Aug. 3 primary. The winner will likely face Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen in the general election.
Has to be a RINO.
You always know when it's a Dimmicrat because the media doesn't identify their affiliation when it is.
LOL, wow didn't take they long to identify the political party of that criminal.
"His campaign Web site says that among his top issues are opposition to abortion, illegal immigration and the state pension system"
Doesn't sound like a democrat to me.
I don't think intoxication is against the law, last time I checked. Must be something else.
I count it an honor and a privilege to be able to run to be your next Republican Governor.
Republican
But, if it's a pubbie, they try to find some room in the first word or so for the party affiliation...
Has to be a RINO.
________
Some freepers, and you seem to be one of them, throw this out whenever a politician with an (R) beside the name does something untoward.
It's easy when you define RINO as anyone doing anything untoward, isn't it.
The Republicans would be a minority party if you threw all of the RINOs out.
>>>I don't think intoxication is against the law, last time I checked. Must be something else.>>>
Here in the south, it is illegal to be intoxicated 'publically'. Which is a catch all because a bar is 'public' once you leave the doors (and in one part of Georgia they were going around INSIDE the bars and testing people for "public intoxication" but that got stopped as it was 'private property').
My guess is the opponet saw an opportunity to tarnish this person who had a few drinks.
Either that or he is a lush. There are alchoholic Republicans I'm sure. Republican doesn't equal perfect.
And this short article has the word "Republican" in it 5 times...
It's not the intoxication part that got him arrested, it was the public part that got him popped. I believe quite a few states has such laws on their books.
>>>It's easy when you define RINO as anyone doing anything untoward, isn't it. >>>
Some people, Repub or Dem, have a hard time grasping people in THEIR party aren't perfect.
Ha.. that's funny. "Public intoxication" against the law. Here in Alaska they'd have to put 50% of the population in jail.
LOL. The first word in the article is "republican". Reading before commenting is certainly not required, but often helpful.
I do it for that very reason.
this is why I will never run for office....
I like silver bullets....
;-)
"But the Senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity"
Yes, I know that the person referrred to in the article is identified as a Republican-that was my point.
Now LOL at myself - oops. Reading required, apparently comprehension challenged.
Well, I do sometimes skim instead of thoroughly reading before commenting-I'm sure it will bite me in the rear one day :)
