Three more loose bolts found in Big Dig tunnel, prompting another closure

Traffic was disrupted once again in a key Big Dig tunnel after inspectors found loose bolts in a ceiling panel the same sort of problem that is believed to have killed a motorist earlier this month.

The $14.6 billion Big Dig project, the most expensive in U.S. history, buried much of the city's highway network in tunnels.

It took over a decade to complete and has since been plagued by leaks, falling debris, cost overruns, delays and problems linked to faulty construction.

Take down the panels. All of them. Now. Find a durable solution to the problem and THEN install it. Any benefit from the panels is far outweighed by their immediate danger. If people think doing that will cost too much money, consider the economic cost if the road system stays out of commission. In the long run, you are spending dollars to save pennies with this inspection process. Get the Damocles Tunnel reopened and restore some confidence that killer panels are gone.

Someone somewhere made a boat load of money from this boondoggle. Contractors, politicans, whomever ought to be called to task over this.

I cannot believe the citizens of Mass. are taking this lying down.

I do not know the exact dollars, but the federal tax payers covered most ( 80 percent ? ) of the expenses.

The tick backs were apparently huge.

Until

the gargantuan LOOSE SCREWS

in the US SENATE are removed,

There's likely to be a lot more loose bolts, deaths, treason . . .

e.g. Scuba Teddy, SKerry, . . .

Loose bolts or loose screws? If loose screws in MA cause tunnel closures forget about ever opening them...

Perhaps Kerry needs to replace the bolts holding his head on.
