Men 'had terrorism handbook'
Herald Sun (Australia) ^ | Aug. 2, 2006 | Katie Lapthorne

TERRORISM suspects hoarded computer how-to guides on making explosives and articles about al-Qaida, Osama bin Laden and jihad, a court heard yesterday.

Aimen Joud, 21, also had graphic video footage of the execution and decapitation of a man said to have come from Chechnya in 1998, Melbourne Magistrates' Court was told. Federal police found the manuals on terrorism and militant Islam when searching the homes of Mr Joud and Shane Kent, 29, in September 2004.

Sen-Constable Paul Madden told the court one handbook, known as the Vortex Cookbook, was later shown to the group's alleged spiritual leader, Abdul Nacer Benbrika.

A book titled A Terrorist's Handbook, a CIA field guide and an article headed "How Bin Laden made a fool out of America", were also found on Mr Joud's computer.

In a statement tendered in court, Sen-Constable Madden said the information focused on jihad and how it could be reinforced in the life of a Muslim.

The books had sections on explosives, sniper shooting and combat skills.

The Vortex Cookbook included chapters on home-made rocket launchers and "a guide to being sneaky and cautious".

Sen-Constable Madden said police recorded a conversation where they allege Abdullah Merhi, 21, is showing the Vortex Cookbook to Mr Benbrika, 46.

Mr Merhi says the book could help the group and Mr Benbrika says they need more information.

"Although there are parts which are inaudible it is clear the words 'kaffer' (non-believer) and 'explosion' are mentioned," Sen-Constable Madden said.

Lawyer Paul Marin, for Mr Joud, said people other than his client had access to the computer and some of the web pages appeared to have been saved by accident.

Forensic chemist John Kelleher had earlier told the court an examination of a burnt battery and spark plugs found during a search had not shown any trace of explosives.

Mr Benbrika, of Dallas, is accused of leading a group of 13 men to conduct jihad in Australia.

Mr Joud, of Hoppers Crossing, Mr Kent, of Meadow Heights, Mr Merhi, of Fawkner, Ahmed Raad, 23, of Fawkner, Izzydeen Atik, of Williamstown, Ezzit Raad, 24, of Preston, Amer Haddara, 26, of Yarraville, Fadal Sayadi, 26, of Coburg, Hany Taha, 31, of Hadfield, Shoue Hammoud, 26, of Hadfield, Bassam Raad, 24, of Brunswick, and Majed Raad, 22, of Coburg all face charges of being group members.

The preliminary hearing continues today.

I find more and more that I'm at a loss for words at how blatantly the MSM and the Democrats have become in their support for terrorists, communists, and tyrants.

It is as if they've decided to embrace the exact opposite of GWB and America.

I'm glad I don't live in Australia. I have numerous items like the ones mentioned above. That certainly does not make me a terrorist.

This is just part of the evidence, they are not being prosecuted for having this in their possession, but for planning terror attacks.

Australia foils 'terror attack'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4416254.stm

Australian police say they have foiled a terrorist attack in the final stages of its preparation, after 16 people were arrested in Sydney and Melbourne.
New South Wales police chief Ken Moroney said a "potentially catastrophic attack" had been averted.

One suspect was shot and wounded during a raid in Sydney. Chemicals, weapons, and computers were seized, police said.

The raids involved about 500 police officers and followed a 16-month investigation, officials said.

"I'm satisfied that we have disrupted what I would regard as the final stages of a large-scale terrorist attack, or the launch of a terrorist attack," Mr Moroney told Australia's ABC radio.

I think in Australia they give daily updates of the trial and apparently that's what happened today or yesterday./

It goes to show you how our media ignores terrorists, except to tell us to treat them better,

Followin the details of such a trial would make people understand more what we are dealing with -- which our MSM doesn't want to do, we would find out what subhumans the terrorists really are.

I found the Poor Man's James Bond at a garage sale for $1 when I was twelve years old. I tried out a number of the recipes, most of which were just copied from the US Dept of the Army TM 31-210 Improvised Munitions Handbook. From there I read a Merck Index when I was 14 and then a series of chemistry texts. Looking back at it now, that "terrorist book" was probably the seed that led me to become a chemical engineer. The declining rate of native born engineering and science graduations in the U.S. may have something to do with this pervasive nanny-ism that takes the fun out of everything technical.

I like the PMJB books mainly for their entertainment value and their skills & craft content. But of course, it all depends on the soil in which the seeds are sown. Uncovering and appreciating the possibilities of chemical compounds led you to become a chemical engineer, whereas a wannabee jihadi just sees the explosions and poisons that he can use to fight his unholy war against unarmed citizens, to the higher glory of whatever deity on whose behalf he claims to operate.
It's important that we can read whatever we want, otherwise we would not be free. Anyone that thinks the world will be more secure when certain publications are black-listed, must be dreaming. It's clearly an enforcement issue, not an ownership issue. You can't trade freedom for security.

I don't want anything about anything blowing things up unless it is in regard to blowing up the seeds of radical Islam.
