TX: Man dies trying to escape home-invasion robbery

A Dallas man died late Wednesday after jumping through a window to escape three robbers who burst into his apartment, north of the city's downtown area, officials said.

Sansiski Daniels, 43, died about 11 p.m. at Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was taken after the home invasion in the 3200 block of Cedar Springs Road, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Daniels lived long enough to tell police that three gunmen whom he knew knocked on his door about 10 p.m., then burst inside and demanded money, said Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, police spokeswoman.

Daniels chose to flee by jumping through his bedroom window, and was severely hurt in the attempt.

"We don't know if any shots were fired, but he was bleeding from everywhere because of the glass," Crowther said.

She added that Daniels told police that one of the robbers might be hiding at an address in the 4200 block of Cedar Springs; police found him there and arrested him.

Police were still trying to find the other two suspects Thursday morning.

In another overnight home invasion, the would-be robber was hospitalized, said Sgt. Ross Salverino, a detective in the robbery unit.

The incident occurred about 1 a.m. in an apartment in the 9400 block of Royal Lane in northeast Dallas, Salverino said. The residents, who sold compact discs out of their home, were confronted by two gunmen demanding money.

But, Salverino said, one of the residents grabbed his own pistol and gunfire was exchanged.

One of the suspects was shot multiple times and the other fled. The wounded man was taken to Baylor Medical Center, but his condition was unavailable early Thursday.

No one else was hurt in the shootout, Salverino said.

Two robbery attempts -- with two completely different results.

The jumper should have had a big old gun and killed the home invaders. Dead men tell no.....no they just rot in a hole with maggots.

The story is fishy.

He knew the robbers, he jumped out the window?

Speculating that there is more to it. They demanded that he give them money, possibly he owed it, from a drug deal or other activity. They were there to kill him if he didn't pay. Just speculation.

"But I saw them do this in the movies and nothing ever happened to them"

Yeah, that way they can check for contraband cable boxes and flashed Tivo's and that way the MPAA picks up part of the tab for the raids.

"...his apartment, north of the city's downtown area......

Inner city culture.

Does TX have a duty-to-retreat statute?

I knew a guy named Shilaski. He was given this name because it was different. He goes by 'Ski'. My guess is this guy did as well.

(No racial or ethnic background indicated in this post)

I don't think so. I think if they are in your house you can shoot them dead.

Unless things have changed a whole lot since I lived in Dallas, and they may have, Cedar Springs and these other areas are not inner city.

Inner city culture.

No, not that area. More Turtle Creek - McKinney Ave from the map. Of course, when you hear Cedar Springs, you first think of the Oak Lawn gay community, but this address looks to be south of the heart of that area.

Correction to my previous post -- I misread the street number - it is in the Oak Lawn community. Not implying anything about these guys, but that is the heart of the homosexual community in Dallas.

Not only not in one's home but nowhere in Texas.

We have no obligation to retreat anywhere.

We pack and shoot back.

We shoot first if required.
