Bill Clinton: Afghanistan needs more troops
Santa Barbara News-Press ^ | Sept 26, 2006

LONDON (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday the resurgence of the Taliban and growth of the poppy harvest in Afghanistan are signs there are insufficient coalition troops in the country.

Clinton also said the global hunt for al-Qaida leaders must be intensified and warned that fighting terrorism through military methods alone carried a risk of encouraging people to turn to extremism.

''There are not enough troops to serve the country (Afghanistan),'' he told an audience at London's Royal Albert Hall. The United States has 21,000 troops in the country, and NATO has about 20,000 there.

Afghanistan has been suffering its heaviest insurgent attacks since the Taliban regime was toppled in late 2001 in a U.S.-led war. Also opium production in Afghanistan has boomed since 2001. Last year, more than 4,500 tons of opium were harvested, about 90 percent of the world supply.

Securing good government in Afghanistan and tracking al-Qaida suspects were the two global priorities today, he said.

''I think it is important that the fight against terror secures a genuine Muslim democracy in Afghanistan and that we intensify the hunt for the leaders of al-Qaida, because they are still by far the most dangerous global network with global targets,'' Clinton said.

Russia had enough forces in Chechnya at one time to have one troop for every six people. It still was not enough to defeat Chechen terrorism or kill or capture Shamil Basayev (the Chechen OBL and friend of al Qaeda). In July of 2006, Basayev was killed in Ingushetia, a republic bordering Chechnya. According to Chechen sources, Basayev was riding in one of the cars escorting a truck filled with explosives in preparation for an attack when the truck, hitting a pothole, exploded, killing Basayev. Sometimes killing the bad guy happens by chance and not flooding a republic with troops.

Clinton, the worst man ever to be President, is now sounding like Carter, the worst President ever. What a pair----the "legacy twins"!

I really do hope Slick Willie continues to speak up all the way to mid-term elections. He has messed with a hornet's nest and it is very angry. The angrier it gets the more he continues to talk. The Dems will get stung in this election in a big way and Slick Willie will again be Republicans best friend.

''I think it is important that the fight against terror secures a genuine Muslim democracy in Afghanistan and that we intensify the hunt for the leaders of al-Qaida, because they are still by far the most dangerous global network with global targets,'' Clinton said.

The former president said he did not believe Iran's nuclear program was the world's most critical problem. Rather, he said, it was the risk of terrorists acting independently of nations and their potential ability to access nuclear weapons."

UNBELIEVABLE....He apparently believes in Democracy in Afghanistan..but does not believe in it when it comes to Iraq!! He also does not believe that a nuclear bomb in the hands of a mad regime in Iran poses any danger to the greater earth!! Except..if they decide to give the bomb to terorists....DUHHHHHHH!!!!

Let the Russians send in about 40,000.

Hey, they're Bill Clinton's friends. Can't he ask?

You know, I was going to go hunting down the remarks from the ACTUAL President of Afghanistan, and what he said about what Afghanistan needs, but then I remembered what President Bush said today when a reporterette asked him about clinton.

"I'm too busy to be pointing fingers!" HAHAHAHA

He's testing the water now to see how he will be received.

Once he refused Osama Bin Laden, he IMO lost the right to all future opinions.

Slick Willie is sure having a hard time remembering he isn't the President any longer. Of course the more he opens his mouth the bigger a$$ he makes of himself so I say give him more air time.
