The Vietman War was useless and a waste. It makes one wonder what if we fully engaged NK and flooded them with Western influences and products....what would happen...

Must elaborate:

I have very mixed emotions,
I strongly support the Vietnamese now living in the USA,
I despise our craven abandonment of the hill people, the RVN forces & their people,
I loathe Henry Kissinger,
I do NOT loathe Vietnam although many of us paid a price for its loss.
But;
I know from experience at the time all those things took place that there is more to any agreement than is announced,
and that there may be more truth in our enemies' statements than is apparent.

Maybe, just maybe, this kind of cooperation will lead to betterment for the masses and for the families of those with new lives in the USA.
(Very close to where I live in many cases)

Maybe it will provide us with a beach head in SEA if ever needed,
Maybe not.

Mixed emotions.

Good. Influence in the area is needed.

Surely (or is it Shirley?) you jest?

WHY should our Military be helping one of the most oppressive. despotic, COMMUNIST regimes in the World?

Is this something Clintoon, Kerry or McPain behind?

BARF!!!!!

A Proud Vietnam Vet who may forgive, but never forgets.

China and Vietnam hate each other. They tangled in the 80's, and the combat-hardened Viets kicked some Chinese ass.

.

On the day I returned home from our Annual Battle of IA DRANG-1965 Alumni Conference in Washington, D.C. in 2004,

...a Communist Vietnam Defense Ministry leader paid a visit to the Pentagon for the first time. Just weeks later a U.S. Navy warship paid a visit to the Port of Saigon, Vietnam.

This month will see President BUSH visiting Communist Vietnam.

Communist Vietnam has imprisoned 3 U.S. Citizens now visiting there for "Terrorism." A Terrorist is defined by Communist Vietnam as anyone who wants a Regime Change there. The last time Communist Vietnam recently did this it was forced to release its jailed U.S. Citizen. through hard public and political pressure from America and a Freedom-Loving Little Saigon CA.

Last August 5th, Gov. ARNOLD signed an Executive Order in Little Saigon, CA recognizing the Freedom and Heritage Flag of Vietnam, as opposed to the Communist Vietnam Flag, as representive of the over 500,000 Vietnamese Americans now living in the Golden State. Doing this, California became the 10th State to do so. Ohio quickly followed the next week, making over 100 cities, counties and states that have ..plus Sydney, Australia..!!!

http://gov.ca.gov/index.php?/photos/3165/
(See Gov. ARNOLD's website Little Saigon CA Photo Essay)

But I was not aware, onyx, of any American Troops going back to Vietnam to train or be trained.

I do know though that...

...FREEDOM is also on it way back to Vietnam,

...one way or another.

Communist Vietnam has been re-engaged by the world ...permanently.

For as President BUSH proclaimed on September 2nd, 2004 at New York's Republican Convention...

...our new 21st Century is...

...The LIBERTY Century,

..........no matter what.

Or the Anti-Freedom Jihadists win over all of us.

Excellent post, Ronnie.
I think the professionals in the Vietnamese may be preparing for the fall of communism. In that event, they will be in the Chinese cross-hairs and very much alone unless they can cement an alliance with the west beforehand.

Our long-ago fight may yet be crowned with victory.

You and me both. I was a `real helicopter pilot' flying Hueys and I saw too much of the bad s&%t these people did. WTF, are we protecting the NVA from the Chinese, or what?

Doesn't make no sense no how.

Mr. Khoan laughed at the idea that there were any American POWs left alive in Vietnam. "I would really admire you if you could find any POW alive," he said. "If we think logically, I do not understand why we should keep any POW. Because we have now sat down with [President Bush], we don't have anything else to bargain."

Laugh all you like, Mr. Khoan.

I am weeping for any American soldier sent on this lousy mission.

The communist officials also met with a number of American business leaders, cutting deals with Microsoft and pushing Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization.

So, it's all about trade. What a surprise.
