Hillary Can Bore a Grateful Nation
RCP ^ | 7 November 2006 | Richard Cohen

In both theory and great expectations, Tuesday is the beginning of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. By nightfall, she will have won a lopsided re-election to the U.S. Senate, with plenty of money left over to start a presidential effort. She enjoys the sort of name recognition a president might envy and has the unalloyed good wishes of Democratic activists who have been waiting all these dark and awful years for a Clinton Restoration. After all, if the Bushes could do it -- one mediocre, the other incompetent -- then why not the brilliant and dazzling Clintons? The answer might be Hillary herself. She can bore a grateful nation.

Such, anyway, was the effect of her recent appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. The anticipation was great. The crowd was huge and the fact that Clinton had agreed to speak to this august body meant -- it had to mean -- that she was at last going to say something thumping about Iraq. Instead, she delivered a no-news address lacking controversy, fresh approaches or even a single soaring sentence. She proved herself fit for the Senate but, not on that afternoon anyway, a presidential candidate.

If one sparrow does not make a spring, then one speech is not a campaign -- nor, maybe, was it typical of what's to come. But those of us who have heard Clinton before, who covered portions of her 2000 Senate campaign, were reminded that she can be industrially dull, so cautious that nothing comes out of her mouth except bromides. In his book about Hillary and her 2000 campaign ("Hillary's Turn''), Michael Tomasky dubbed her "The Laundry Lady'' for the numbing numbers of little programs she would somehow implement if elected.

She also has negatives more appropriate for a lame duck two term President with some scandals and she hasn't even been elected President. Negatives are hard to change - I dont think she will ever be President.

Obama is pure hype. He'll fold like a pup tent when the crunch comes. Keep your eye on Evan Bayh for 08'.

I want to hear her go berserk like she did with this speech. Yeah, that will work. Seems like Hillary is contracting the same disease as Gore and Kerry--she doesn't know whom to be.

I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say, 'We are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration!'"

I think you are right. Plus he's more liberal than Hillary. That's pretty darn liberal.

I was looking forward to a long, bloody knife fight between hillary and kerry, but that dumbass already cut his own throat.

Kerry will still run though. Remember he's a dumbass but an arrogant one. Plus there's always Gore as a possible contender. That would be fun to watch too.

It should be illegal for anyone to take state campaign funds and use them for federal general election presidential campaigns. To me, it seems like fraud for someone to tell voters that they will support the state if elected senator and then use the left over campaign fund to run for president in the next general election, not completion the current 6 years that they were elected for.

Forget the scandals....this is all you need to know about the Clintons in leadership. Take it from them on taxes:

Bill - Buffalo, NY 1999

"We could give it all back to you and hope you spend it right... But ... if you don't spend it right, here's what's going to happen. In 2013 -- that's just 14 years away -- taxes people pay on their payroll for Social Security will no longer cover the monthly checks... I want every parent here to look at the young people here, and ask yourself, 'Do you really want to run the risk of squandering this surplus?' "

Hillary - San Fran, CA 2004

"We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

Her Thighness comes out bravely against Kerry's slam on the intelligence of our troops.

Her "husband" has been spending a lot of time campaigning for Allen's opponent Jim Webb. This despite Webbs past statements describing the Clinton administration as the most corrupt ever.

This is called clearing the way for Hillary's run for the presidency. It's always about them.

Regards.

The Bush Presidents..."one mediocre, the other incompetent". That sort of B.S. really totally infuriates me. Bill Clinton was mediocre AND incompetent!! And she is too! (And boring besides, at least they got that right)

Haven't they already got Obama on the run trying to explain some very shady real-estate deals he's made. One in particular that's associated with some felon or other? I've seen posts on it..

Ha! Here it is... Obama on Rezko deal: It was a mistake (Barack done after election)

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama expressed regret late Friday for his 2005 land purchase from now-indicted political fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko in a deal that enlarged the senator’s yard.

“I consider this a mistake on my part and I regret it,” Obama told the Chicago Sun-Times in an exclusive and revealing question-and-answer exchange about the transaction.

Hitlery is often criticized for her uninspiring speaking style and dull rhetoric. Don't forget that with the money's she's got all it takes is a few weeks course in "effective speaking" and the hiring of a few good speech writers and she'll come with the speaking skills of a Winston Churchill.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
