Because the libertarian universe has no place for the vulnerable, weak, or the dependent--since none are autonomous adult-choosers in search of virtual kiddie porn--it has no qualms in providing a forum in which children and their families can be verbally abused and have profanities hurled at them. Read and weep Julian Sanchez's "Your Tears Are So Yummy and Sweet" in which the writer says he finds joy in the tears of Rick Santorum's eight-year-old daughter, who is pictured crying next to her father as he gives his concession speech on Tuesday night, November 7. Most of the comments that follow celebrate and contribute to Mr. Sanchez's meanness. Man, I haven't taken this much pleasure in the suffering of a small child in days.

Power drive was her father's. Hopefully it would start dawning on her that power is evil.
You know, "MaxFlint", I didn't think so until I worked as a "Striker/Watcher" at the polls this election. I am in one of the single most conservative areas of this state, i.e., Lancaster County. It was most unsettling to actually see sooooo many people come in to vote who were not on my list of Republican Voters. In addition to that, Lancaster County has always been able to produce "big time" for any good solid genuine conservative. It was much closer this time. But I attributed that to Casey allegedly being "pro-life". People who would never have voted for a liberal Democrat before felt they could go ahead and vote for this mushy, mealy-mouthed Casey ONLY because he "said" he is pro-life.
Besides this, I know that for at least two (2) full years before the election the media, with the help of the millions of dollars poured into this state by George Soros designed to accomplish the sound defeat of Rick Santorum, are the factors I believe are most responsible for his loss (and ours)!! They all went after him with a vengence!
Any more thoughts? I really want to understand what happened here and plan to make every effort working with others here to fix it.

Perhaps, but I don't think this had much to do with it. Even if you're right, I can't wait to see these fool, uninformed voters after Casey is in the Senate...he was, afterall the State Treasurer. He hardly showed up for work in that capacity. You'd think that even simple minded voters would be able to put two (2) and two (2) together; wouldn't you?

I suppose this could have had something to do with it. But I spent almost four (4) full weeks making phone calls and knocking on hundreds of doors. And most of the seniors I spoke with had one (1) of two (2) reactions:
1) "I would never vote for anyone but Senator Santorum!."
2) "I am so sick and tired of this awful campaign. I just don't want to hear another word about it. I don't care who you're representing!"
I have listened to Rush for years. I very much respect and like him. So I'll give this some real consideration.

Well I remember a lot of mean jokes about how homely she was during the time her father was in office. I think people are getting a little silly with their indignation here.I think it is cruel to subject your children to the brutality of politics. Things like this happen. Partisan Politics can get extremely mean with plenty of low blows thrown by both sides.
If you've followed this thread completely, you would have noticed that I condemned this post at Reason. I was merely trying to point out that ad hominims and crossing the line was something that happens all too often in politics, from every quarter. Calling people names doesn't advance the political agenda. If you think differently, good luck with it. Sheesh.

Well good on Rush. He needed to after twice slighting Chelsea Clinton's looks. See my post No 141. While apologizing for the dog caption accident, he slighted her looks a second time. In his apology on a later show, Rush included this sentence, "I mean, she can't help the way she looks". Charming. Or do you think it was a compliment?
I only brought the Rush/Chelsea incident to light because many here demanded evidence from me where a conservative had done something similar as this Reason character. I provided the evidence. I was right, my critics wrong. Please forgive me for proving my argument.
Ad hominims are wrong, no matter where on the poilitical spectrum they come from. Bringing politician's children into the mix is just as wrong, if not more so. If you want to argue otherwise, be my guest.

When republicans stop bankrupting the nation with insane spending, I will be willing to entertain evidence that they have compassion for kids.. or anybody.
They hate. It's their stock and trade.
Would you be willing to list all of the alledged "insane spending" you are referring you? I would very much like to look into this.

The second area is entitlements. Medicare and Social Security need to be privatised as soon as possible - I suggest Social Security is going to have to be eased out slowly, an expensive process, but a necessary one. Expansion of the drug benefits did not help.
