No one in America is hungry unless it is by choice. There is free food everywhere.

There's no way 35 million people are struggling with hunger. 3.5 million, maybe. Not 35.

"There are 35 million people in this country who are struggling with hunger, no matter what you call it,"

Duh...isn't that the number of babies who need feeding? Let's see...16 mil illegal immigrants having one baby per year..first thing you know, it all adds up.

Food stamps are being replaced by debit cards. Food banks can't compete. Who wants beans and rice when you can have steak and lobster?

I read somewhere that they changed the name because Americans aren't hungry and they are now counting who would go hungry if they lost their job etc.

I want to know how many people in the USA starved to death. When they can show it's more than 100 a year ... I'll think about making this a low priority issue.

NO ONE starves to death in the US unless it's by choice.

Still there.

America's problem isn't too little food, but too much. And the poorer the economic circumstances of the people I see, the more overweight they generally are.

There was an article in the local MSM paper yesterday, critical of this new policy, which mentioned, straight face, among a list of things obesity as a proof there is hunger in America. Thank you doctor, you can put on me my straitjacket now.

Ten per cent of Americans are going hungry?
I have a widespread feeling that this is total crap. Statistics manipulation in other words, based knowingly on false assumptions...common tactic of leftists.

This sounds like an excuse for a tax increase.

BOHICA in progress.

Yeah, here's the stark reality of hunger in America speaking from a school containing some of the poorest children in the United States. Most of the kids are fat. They may not have a roll of big bills in their wallets, but a fair number of them are sporting a big roll above the belt. Those are the kids. The parents are equally hefty, for the most part. I can drive to the dump this evening and find hundreds of chip bags, pizza boxes, soda cans, and microwave meals.

Fifteen years ago, when I was broke and living among section 8 and welfare moms, most of them were fat, too. The amount of food you can get with government assistance is astounding if you spend it wisely and incredible if you blow it on garbage. The kids were fat then, too. Not only that, but just about everyone had money left over for pretty decent weed.

I'm glad the see the government has caught up with reality here. I don't expect the activists to ever reach that stage, though.

The change in terminology has angered groups that fight hunger who say it is aimed at hiding a stark reality.

I thought Americans were to fat? When was the last case of an American starving to death recorded?

There is no reason that anyone in America should go to bed hungry.

If they do, it's the result of abuse on THEIR part, and not on the part of unavailable food programs.

A person can survive quite a while without food. On the other hand, you don't last long without water. I'm more concerned about "the thirsty" than I am "the hungry." We could really knock that 35 million figure in the butt by deporting the illegal aliens. Unfortunately, doing that is politically incorrect and "racist." sarc/off

This is one of the cases where I agree with a gov't "redefinition". Kids get breakfast and lunch at school (and many poor communities have these programs in the summer) There are still food stamps (although they use debit cards as the form of payment now), food banks, and meals at shelters.

There is still a problem with people (particularly those with children) who are too zonked out on alcohol or drugs, or too mentally ill to take care of themselves or their children. Money and programs won't help them.
