BookTV schedule ^ | December 1, 2006 | BookTV

Posted on 12/01/2006 4:23:34 PM PST by Nicholas Conradin

On Sunday, December 3 at 3:30 pm The Truth about Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion Robert Spencer

Description: In "The Truth about Muhammad" author Robert Spencer argues that the example of Muhammad, the founder of Islam, justifies jihad and terrorism. At the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC, Mr. Spencer describes Muhammad's life and teachings as violent and urges Americans to understand the true nature of Islam in order to effectively prosecute the War on Terror.

Author Bio: Robert Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch and author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)," "Islam Unveiled: Disturbing Questions about the World's Fastest Growing Faith" and "Onward Muslim Soldiers: How Jihad Still Threatens America and the West."

On Sunday, December 3 at 4:30 pm Muhammad: A Prophet for Our Time Karen Armstrong

Description: In Karen Armstrong's biography of the Prophet of Islam she describes Muhammad as a respectful man who lived a decent life. Ms. Armstrong argues that while the Islamic religion is often represented as cruel, inherently violent and intolerant, Muhammad taught tolerance toward Jews and Christians to all of his followers. This event was hosted by the Mosaic Foundation as part of their new lecture series "Re Discovering the Arab World."

Author Bio: Karen Armstrong is the author of numerous books, including "The Great Transformation," "A History of God" and "The Spiral Staircase."

Karen Armstrong is clearly delusional.

Armstrong is highly disliked by some on FR. However, she should be read anyway unless somebody is afraid of getting contaminated by a little wider view of history.

I predict that Robert Spencer is going to shred Karen Armstrong into itty-bitty pieces...in a nice way, of course. He's always polite.

I can recommend Robert Spencer's books without reservation. The unvarnished truth is presented in such a fashion as to remove any illusions one may hold regarding the murderous criminal system known as islam. I wish everyone in America would read Spencer's books.

Plenty of good stuff on BookTV this weekend.
Even if it's degraded by 3 1/2 hours of Jimmy Carter on Sunday.

Here's a bump and another link to the BookTV Schedule for folks:

http://www.booktv.org/schedule/index.asp?schedID=464

And I'll also cast my vote for "Karen Armstrong is insane", based on the
premise of her book.

Armstrong is a former nun-in-training who dropped out due to, among other things, her dislike of other women's devotion to the Blessed Virgin. She's recognized and respected in the muslim world for her support of islam. Personally, I think she's a kook.

Probably well worth the read. However, I am already convinced that Islam is one of the underlying causes of our current problems with the Mideastern countries. So, his books would be "preaching to the choir" in my case.

Islam is definitely a threat to the West and world peace. However, it would never be my goal to irradicate Islam. Nor would I even advocate pushing western ideals on Mideastern countries except for one.

Were it in my power to make this U.S. policy - that policy would be that we will insist that no country conquered (AKA "liberated") by the use of American armed forces, would be allowed to resume self rule until the new government has an absolute commitment to "freedom of conscience." By this I mean that all citizens may worship/believe (or not) as their own conscience dictates. That no one may use force (personal or corporate) or law to force anyone to subscribing to any religious view or system. Everyone should have the fundamental freedom to freely believe (or not) what they may without fear of retribution.

Therefore, I would never allow an "Islamic" state to be formed where the U.S. used force to overthrow a hostile government. Of course, the people would be free to personally subscribe to Islamic belief and morality, but it would not be enshrined in law. All beliefs would be allowed. This is what I think is necessary to pacify that troubled part of the world.

Yes, I guess I am naive

Might be worth pinging your lists. Although the two, Robert Spencer and Karen Armstrong, will not be together in a single program, their very different perspectives will air back-to-back. The airing times are ET on C-SPAN2.

I'll watch both segments as I believe it important to know my friends (Robert Spencer), but to also know the enemy (Karen Armstrong).

Thanks for the heads up!  !

Karen Armstrong, for those who don't know her, is incredible.

from the link:

~snip~

Am I "anti-Muslim"? Some time ago here at Jihad Watch I had an exchange with an English convert to Islam. I said: "I would like nothing better than a flowering, a renaissance, in the Muslim world, including full equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies: freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, equal employment opportunities, etc." Is all that "anti-Muslim"? My correspondent thought so. He responded: "So, you would like to see us ditch much of our religion and, thereby, become non-Muslims."

In other words, he saw a call for equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies, including freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, and equal employment opportunities, as a challenge to his religion. To the extent that they are, these facts have to be confronted by both Muslims and non-Muslims. But I make no apologies: it is not "anti-Muslim" to wish freedom of conscience and equality of rights on the Islamic world -- quite the contrary.

-------

And Karen Armstrong is an idiot.

That would be funny to see, but, of course, Spencer won't do it. However, his mastery of the texts of islam is going to put Armstrong in a world of hurt if she's not quite well-prepared, and probably even if she is.

Armstrong needs help. If true, she's suffering from women hatred (self-hatred) making her a perfect candidate for conversion to islam.
Or a usefull idiot to mohammadanism. That, she already is.
